Abstract

The present invention concerns a method of controlling a layout of media items on a user interface of a touch sensitive display. The invention also concerns a mobile electronic communication device using the method.

Claims (25)

1 . A method of controlling a layout of media items on a user interface for a mobile electronic device comprising a touch sensitive display, the method comprising:

detecting a dual touch action comprising two touch points,

determining a distance and direction of a movement of the two touch points in relation to each other,

changing the layout of the media items on the user interface in response to the determined distance and direction of the relative movement, and

positioning the media items with the changed layout on the user interface so that the media items with the changed layout is shown over the width of the touch sensitive display.

2 . A method according to claim 1 , comprising positioning the media items with the changed layout on the user interface so that an integer of media items with the changed layout is shown over the width of the touch sensitive display.

3 . A method according claim 1 , wherein each media item comprises one or more media fields for displaying additional content of the media item.

4 . A method according to claim 1 , comprising adapting of at least one media item on the touch sensitive display by showing or hiding one or more media fields of the at least one media item in correspondence to the changed layout of media items.

5 . A method according to claim 1 , comprising predetermining a grid of the media items for each layout of the media items on the user interface, whereby a grid of the layout of the media items is changed to a different grid of the layout of the media items in response to the determined distance and direction of the relative movement of the two touch points.

6 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein each change of layout of the media items is performed by means of a distinct snap-like switch from the layout to the changed layout in response to the determined distance and direction of the relative movement of the two touch points.

7 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein each change of layout of the media items is performed by means of switch from the layout to the changed layout by means of the dual touch action being either a pinch gesture on the touch sensitive display decreasing the distance between the two touch points or a spread gesture on the touch sensitive display increasing the distance between the two touch points, whereby a pinch changes to a finer grid of media items and a spread changes to a more coarse grid of media items.

8 . A method according to claim 5 , wherein at least one of the grids comprises a coarse grid for a first media item and a fine grid for the remaining media items.

9 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein the number of changes of layout of the media items is controlled in response to the determined distance and direction of the relative movement of the two touch points in one and the same dual touch action.

10 . A method according to claim 3 , comprising optimizing the layout and content of each media field in relation to the size of each media item.

11 . A method according to claim 3 , comprising optimizing the displayed layout and content of each media field in relation to a touch resolution of the touch sensitive display.

12 . A method according to claim 1 , comprising optimizing the displayed layout and content of each media item in relation to a touch resolution of the touch sensitive display.

13 . A method according to claim 3 , wherein the amount of displayed content of the media field increases when the distance between the two touch points increases in relation to each other and the amount of displayed content of the media field decreases when the distance between the two touch points decreases in relation to each other.

14 . A method according to claim 13 , wherein the displayed content of at least one media field comprises meta data and/or user selectable interactive action items, such as play or menu buttons or the like.

15 . A method according to claim 3 , wherein at least one media field at least partly overlays at least one media item.

16 . A method according to claim 3 , wherein at least one media field ( 30 ) does not overlay any media item.

17 . A method according to claim 1 , comprising increasing the size of at least one media item and decreasing the size of at least one other media item, in the same grid of layout of media items, when changing the layout of media items.

18 . A method according to claim 3 , comprising increasing the size of at least one media item and the size of at least one media field and decreasing the size of at least one other media item and the size of at least one other media field, in the same grid of layout of media items, when changing the layout of media items.

19 . A method according to claim 3 , comprising increasing the size of at least one media item or the size of at least one media field and decreasing the size of at least one other media item or the size of at least one other media field, in the same grid of layout of media items, when changing the layout of media items.

20 . A method according to claim 1 , comprising positioning the media items with the changed layout on the user interface so that an integer of the media items with the changed layout is shown over the height of the touch sensitive display.

21 . A mobile electronic communication device using the method according to claim 1 for controlling its user interface on a touch sensitive display.
