Abstract

An image processing apparatus includes a calculation unit configured to calculate information indicating similarity among a plurality of tomographic images, and a generation unit configured to generate a tomographic image from the plurality of tomographic images based on the calculated information indicating similarity.

Claims (43)

1. An image processing system including at least one processor comprising:

a calculation unit configured to calculate a degree of similarity among a plurality of tomographic images acquired based on a measuring beam controlled so that a same position is scanned with the measuring beam a plurality of times;

a generation unit configured to generate a composite image by combining a plurality of tomographic images having a calculated degree of similarity being larger than a predetermined value; and

an acquisition unit configured to acquire the plurality of tomographic images,

wherein the acquisition unit is a Fourier-domain optical coherence tomography apparatus.

2. The image processing system according to claim 1 ,

wherein the calculation unit is configured to calculate a degree of similarity between a reference tomographic image and a tomographic image different from the reference tomographic image, and

further comprising a determination unit configured to determine a tomographic image to be used by the generation unit for generating a composite image from the plurality of tomographic images based on the calculated degree of similarity.

3. The image processing system according to claim 1 , further comprising:

an alignment unit configured to align the plurality of tomographic images with one another,

wherein the calculation unit is configured to calculate the degree of similarity among the plurality of tomographic images after the plurality of tomographic images are aligned by the alignment unit.

4. The image processing system according to claim 3 , wherein the alignment unit is configured to align the plurality of tomographic images with one another based on boundaries between layers of the plurality of tomographic images.

5. The image processing system according to claim 1 , wherein the tomographic images are tomographic images of a subject's eye.

6. The image processing system according to claim 5 , wherein the tomographic images of the subject's eye are tomographic images of a fundus of the subject's eye.

7. The image processing system according to claim 1 , wherein the generation unit is configured to not combine tomographic images having a degree of similarity being smaller than the predetermined value.

8. The image processing system including at least one processor comprising:

a calculation unit configured to calculate a degree of similarity of a plurality of tomographic images to a first tomographic image;

a generation unit configured to generate a composite image by combining a plurality of tomographic images having a calculated degree of similarity being larger than a predetermined value with the first tomographic image; and

an acquisition unit configured to acquire the first tomographic image and the plurality of tomographic images,

wherein the acquisition unit is a Fourier-domain optical coherence tomography apparatus, and

wherein the first tomographic image and the plurality of tomographic images are acquired based on a measuring beam controlled so that a same position is scanned with the measuring beam a plurality of times.

9. The image processing system according to claim 8 , further comprising:

an alignment unit configured to align the first tomographic image and the plurality of tomographic images,

wherein the calculation unit is configured to calculate the degree of similarity of the plurality of tomographic images to the first tomographic image after the first tomographic image and the plurality of tomographic images are aligned by the alignment unit.

10. The image processing system according to claim 9 , wherein the alignment unit is configured to align the first tomographic image and the plurality of tomographic images based on boundaries between layers of the first tomographic image and the plurality of tomographic images.
