Abstract

A lock-box may include a set of walls defining a compartment, an electromechanical lock assembly, and a door rotatably coupled to the set of walls that, when in a closed position, forms a fully enclosed lock-box, the door including a front side that includes a user interface in communication with the electromechanical lock assembly, and by which a user interfaces to lock and unlock the door. The front side of the door further includes a panel configured to be backlit and an illumination device configured to backlight the panel.

Claims (37)

1. A lock-box, comprising:

a set of walls defining a compartment;

an electromechanical lock assembly; and

a door rotatably coupled to the set of walls that, when in a closed position, forms a fully enclosed lock-box, said door including a front side that includes:

a user interface including a keypad and an electronic display, said user interface being in communication with said electromechanical lock assembly, and by which a user interfaces to lock and unlock said door, said user interface being configured to dynamically display information in response to the user interfacing with the keypad;

a panel configured to be backlit, and having static information disposed thereon that, when the panel is backlit, enables light to pass therethrough; and

an illumination device configured to backlight the panel, the light passing through the static information disposed on said panel for the user to view backlit static information.

2. The lock-box according to claim 1 , further comprising electronics that, in response to a user interacting with said user interface, cause the electronic display of said illumination device to illuminate for a predetermined period of time.

3. The lock-box according to claim 1 , wherein the electronic display of said panel includes instructions for locking and unlocking said lock-box that, when said panel is backlit, the instructions are backlit such that the user can view illuminated instructions.

The lock-box according to claim 1 , wherein said door further includes a first magnet fixedly secured thereto and said panel includes a second magnet fixedly secured thereto such that the first and second magnets are configured to be mutually attracted to one another to cause said panel to remain magnetically secured to said door.

5. The lock-box according to claim 4 , wherein said door further includes a standoff disposed behind said backlit panel to which the first magnet is fixedly secured.

6. The lock-box according to claim 1 , further comprising a keyhole disposed behind said panel that is accessible when said panel is removed from said door, and when activated by a key, causes said electromechanical lock assembly to be overridden.

7. The lock-box according to claim 6 , wherein said keyhole is a part of a lock override assembly that is removable from said electromechanical lock assembly.

8. The lock-box according to claim 6 , further comprising a keyhole cover positioned over said keyhole, and removable utilizing a different key than the key used to engage the keyhole.

The lock-box according to claim 1 , further comprising an electrical connector in electrical communication with said electromechanical lock assembly, and disposed behind said panel so as to be accessible when said panel is removed from said door, said electrical connector enabling a user to program or reprogram said electromechanical lock assembly when a computing device is connected to said electrical connector.

10. A method of controlling a lock-box, comprising:

receiving a user interface signal in response to a user engaging a user interface of the lock-box;

in response to receiving the user interface signal, causing an illumination device to illuminate; and

backlighting a panel disposed on a front face of a front door of the lock-box, the panel including static information disposed on the panel to enable light to pass through the static information.

11. The method according to claim 10 , wherein receiving a user interface signal includes receiving a user interface signal from a keypad of the user interface.

12. The method according to claim 10 , further comprising causing a timer to initiate a predetermined amount of time during which the illumination device is illuminated.

13. The method according to claim 12 , wherein in response to the timer completing the predetermined amount of time, causing the illumination device to automatically turn off.

14. A lock-box, comprising:

a set of walls defining a compartment;

an electromechanical lock assembly; and

a door rotatably coupled to the set of walls that, when in a closed position, forms a fully enclosed lock-box, said door including a front face that includes:

a user interface in communication with said electromechanical lock assembly, and by which a user interfaces to lock and unlock said door, said user interface including a keypad and an electronic display configured to dynamically display information in response to the user interfacing with the keypad;

a cavity defined by said door; and

a panel including static information disposed thereon, and configured to be positioned over said cavity in which at least a portion of an electromechanical lock assembly is accessible, and to form a portion of the front face of said door, said panel further configured to be detachable from said door.

15. The lock-box according to claim 14 , wherein said panel is a backlit panel that, in response to an illumination device positioned behind the panel within the cavity being illuminated, causes the static information to be illuminated.

The lock-box according to claim 14 , wherein said cavity includes a first magnet fixedly secured thereto and said panel includes a second magnet fixedly secured thereto such that the first and second magnets are configured to be mutually attracted to one another to cause said panel to remain magnetically secured to said door.

17. The lock-box according to claim 14 , further comprising a keyhole disposed within said cavity and accessible when said panel is detached from said door, and when activated by a key, causes said electromechanical lock assembly to be overridden.

The lock-box according to claim 14 , further comprising an electrical connector in electrical communication with said electromechanical lock assembly, and disposed behind said panel so as to be accessible when said panel is detached from said door, said electrical connector enabling a user to program or reprogram said electromechanical lock when a computing device is connected to said electrical connector.

19. The lock-box according to claim 1 , wherein the panel includes at least a first portion laterally adjacent to a first side of the user interface.

20. The lock-box according to claim 19 , wherein the panel further includes a second portion opposite the first portion and laterally adjacent to a second side of the user interface.

21. The lock-box according to claim 14 , wherein the panel includes at least a first portion laterally adjacent to a first side of the user interface.

22. The lock-box according to claim 21 , wherein the panel further includes a second portion opposite the first portion and laterally adjacent to a second side of the user interface.
