Abstract

A satellite dish assembly may comprise a reflector, feed horn, receive module, and wireless module. The reflector and feed horn may be operable to receive satellite signals. The receive module may be operable to recover content from the received satellite signals. The wireless module may be operable to communicate the content directly to a mobile device via a wireless connection between the mobile device and the system. The wireless module may be operable to communicate directly with a service provider network via a wireless connection between the satellite dish assembly and the service provider network. The communications with the service provider network may be to obtain security information for descrambling and/or decrypting the content and/or for providing billing information.

Claims (34)

1. A method comprising:

in a satellite dish assembly comprising a first receiver, a first transceiver, and a second transceiver:

receiving encrypted content from a satellite via said first receiver;

transmitting said encrypted content to a gateway via said first transceiver where said content is decrypted and digital rights management is applied, resulting in DRM-protected content;

receiving said DRM protected content from said gateway via said first transceiver; and

transmitting said DRM-protected content to a mobile device via said second transceiver.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said second transceiver is a wireless transceiver.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein said wireless transceiver is operable to communicate in accordance with a mobile telephony standard.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein said wireless transceiver is operable to communicate in accordance with a wireless local area networking standard.

5. The method of claim 1 , comprising transmitting, via said second transceiver, one or more keys for decrypting said DRM-protected content to said mobile device upon determining that said mobile device is authorized to receive said content.

6. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

receiving, via said second transceiver, information about said mobile device; and

transmitting said information about said mobile device to said gateway for authentication of said mobile device.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein said transmitting said DRM-protected content to said mobile device is via a direct link between said second transceiver and said mobile device.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein said satellite dish assembly comprises an antenna and a low noise block downconverter.

9. The method of claim 1 , comprising caching said encrypted content and/or said DRM-protected content in memory of said satellite dish assembly.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein said first transceiver encapsulates said encrypted content in Internet Protocol packets.

11. A system comprising:

a satellite dish assembly comprising a first receiver, a first transceiver, and a second transceiver, wherein:

said first receiver is operable to receive encrypted content from a satellite;

said first transceiver is operable to transmit said encrypted content to a gateway where said content is decrypted and digital rights management is applied, resulting in DRM-protected content;

said first transceiver is operable to receive said DRM protected content from said gateway; and

said second transceiver is operable to transmit said DRM-protected content to a mobile device.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein said second transceiver is a wireless transceiver.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein said wireless transceiver is operable to communicate in accordance with a mobile telephony standard.

14. The system of claim 12 , wherein said wireless transceiver is operable to communicate in accordance with a wireless local area networking standard.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein said second transceiver is operable to transmit one or more keys for decrypting said DRM-protected content to said mobile device upon a determination that said mobile device is authorized to receive said content.

16. The system of claim 11 ,

wherein said second transceiver is operable to receive information about said mobile device; and

said first transceiver is operable to transmit said information about said mobile device to said gateway for authentication of said mobile device.

17. The system of claim 11 , wherein said transmission of said DRM-protected content to said mobile device is via a direct link between said second transceiver and said mobile device.

18. The system of claim 11 , wherein said satellite dish assembly comprises an antenna and a low noise block downconverter.

19. The system of claim 11 , wherein said satellite dish assembly comprises memory for caching of said encrypted content and/or said DRM-protected content.

20. The system of claim 11 , wherein said first transceiver is operable to encapsulate said encrypted content in Internet Protocol packets.
