System and Method for Providing a Tile Management Controller
A floor tile for a data center floor includes a memory device and a tile management controller coupled to the memory device. The tile management controller receives configuration information for a server rack located on the floor tile and stores the configuration information in the memory device.
1 . A system comprising:
a data center management controller; and
a data center floor including a plurality of active floor tiles, each active floor tile including a tile management controller;
wherein the data center management controller:
determines a first location of a first active floor tile of the plurality of active floor tiles; and
provides first configuration information for a first server rack of the data center to the tile management controller of the first active floor tile in response to determining the first location.
2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein further the data center management controller:
determines a second location of a second active floor tile of the plurality of active floor tiles based upon the first location; and
provides second configuration information for a second server rack of the data center to the tile management controller of the second active floor tile in response to determining the second location.
3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:
the first server rack includes a rack management controller; and
the tile management controller provides the first configuration information to the rack management controller.
4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the first configuration information is provided to the rack management controller in response to the first server rack being located at the first active floor tile.
5 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the rack management controller configures equipment in the first server rack based upon the first configuration information.
6 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the first configuration information includes one of a grid location of the data center floor upon which the first server rack is located, a weight limit for the first server rack, and an Internet Protocol address range for equipment in the first server rack.
7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of active floor tiles comprise a grid, wherein each particular active floor tile is identified by a grid location associated with the particular active floor tile.
8 . A method comprising:
determining, by a data center management controller, a first location of a first active floor tile of a plurality of active floor tiles of a data center, wherein each active floor tile includes a tile management controller; and
providing first configuration information for a first server rack of the data center to the tile management controller of the first active floor tile in response to determining the first location.
9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:
determining, by the data center management controller, a second location of second active floor tile of the plurality of active floor tiles based upon the first location; and
providing second configuration information for a second server rack of the data center to the tile management controller of the second active floor tile in response to determining the second location.
10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein:
the first server rack includes a rack management controller; and
the method further comprises providing the first configuration information to the rack management controller.
11 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the first configuration information is provided to the rack management controller in response to the first server rack being located at the first active floor tile.
12 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:
configuring, by the rack management controller, equipment in the first server rack based upon the first configuration information.
13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the first configuration information includes one of a grid location of the data center floor upon which the first server rack is located, a weight limit for the first server rack, and an Internet Protocol address range for equipment in the first server rack.
14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of active floor tiles comprise a grid, wherein each particular active floor tile is identified by a grid location associated with the particular active floor tile.
15 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium including code for performing method, the method comprising:
determining, by a data center management controller, a first location of a first active floor tile of a plurality of active floor tiles of a data center, wherein each active floor tile includes a tile management controller; and
providing first configuration information for a first server rack of the data center to the tile management controller of the first active floor tile in response to determining the first location.
16 . The computer-readable medium of claim 15 , further comprising:
determining, by the data center management controller, a second location of a second active floor tile of the plurality of active floor tiles based upon the first location; and
providing second configuration information for a second server rack of the data center to the tile management controller of the second active floor tile in response to determining the second location.
17 . The computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein:
the first server rack includes a rack management controller; and
the method further comprises providing the first configuration information to the rack management controller.
18 . The computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the first configuration information is provided to the rack management controller in response to the first server rack being located at the first active floor tile.
19 . The computer-readable medium of claim 18 , further comprising:
configuring, by the rack management controller, equipment in the first server rack based upon the first configuration information.
20 . The computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the first configuration information includes one of a grid location of the data center floor upon which the first server rack is located, a weight limit for the first server rack, and an Internet Protocol address range for equipment in the first server rack.
