Abstract

Disclosed is bucindolol substantially free of its R-stereoisomer. Also disclosed are pharmaceutical compositions that include bucindolol substantially free of its R-stereoisomer or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Also disclosed are methods of treating a patient that involve administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of a composition of the present invention.

Claims (11)

1. A method of treating a patient comprising administering to said patient a dosage of a composition comprising bucindolol, wherein the composition comprises a ratio of S-bucindolol to R-bucindolol of at least 99:1 by weight, wherein the patient exhibits the symptoms of or has been diagnosed with right ventricular heart failure, congestive heart failure, hypertension, angina, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrhythmia, mitral valve prolapse, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, or acute dissecting aortic aneurysm, wherein the patient receives the dosage at least twice daily over a period of at least 14 days, and wherein the dosage is an oral dosage and comprises 10 mg to 100 mg of bucindolol.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient receives the dosage over a period of at least 28 days.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient exhibits the symptoms of or has been diagnosed with right ventricular heart failure.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient exhibits the symptoms of or has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient exhibits the symptoms of or has been diagnosed with hypertension.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient exhibits the symptoms of or has been diagnosed with a angina.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient exhibits the symptoms of or has been diagnosed with myocardial infarction.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient exhibits the symptoms of or has been diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient exhibits the symptoms of or has been diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient exhibits the symptoms of or has been diagnosed with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient exhibits the symptoms of or has been diagnosed with acute dissecting aortic aneurysm.
