Abstract

The present invention relates, in part, to heat transfer and refrigerant compositions and methods that include HFC-32; HFO-1234ze and HFC-125.

Claims (34)

1. A heat transfer composition comprising:

(a) from about 60% to about 70% by weight of HFC-32;

(b) from about 20% to about 40% by weight of transHFO-1234ze; and

(c) from greater than about 0% to about 10% by weight of HFC-125,

provided that the amount of component (c) is effective to improve one or more of glide of the composition; heating capacity of the composition, burning velocity of the composition; and/or hazard value of the composition.

2. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 further comprising a compound, other than transHFO-1234ze, selected from unsaturated —CF3 terminated propenes, unsaturated —CF3 terminated butenes, and combinations of these.

3. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 , comprising from about 63% to about 69% by weight of HFC-32; from about 25% to about 37% by weight of transHFO-1234ze; and from greater than about 0% to about 6% by weight of HFC-125.

4. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 , comprising from about 1% to about 8% by weight of HFC-125.

5. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 , comprising from about 1% to about 6% by weight of HFC-125.

6. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 , comprising from about 3% to about 8% by weight of HFC-125.

7. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 , comprising from about 3% to about 6% by weight of HFC-125.

8. A refrigerant composition comprising the heat transfer composition of claim 1 .

9. The refrigerant composition of claim 8 , comprising from about 63% to about 69% by weight of HFC-32; from about 25% to about 37% by weight of transHFO-1234ze; and from greater than about 0% to about 6% by weight of HFC-125.

10. The refrigerant composition of claim 8 , comprising from about 1% to about 8% by weight of HFC-125.

11. The refrigerant composition of claim 8 , comprising from about 1% to about 6% by weight of HFC-125.

12. The refrigerant composition of claim 8 , comprising from about 3% to about 8% by weight of HFC-125.

13. The refrigerant composition of claim 8 , comprising from about 3% to about 6% by weight of HFC-125.

14. A method of replacing an existing heat transfer fluid contained in heat transfer system comprising removing at least a portion of said existing heat transfer fluid from said system, said existing heat transfer fluid being HFC-410A and replacing at least a portion of said existing heat transfer fluid by introducing into said system a heat transfer composition of claim 1 .

15. A heat transfer system comprising a compressor, a condenser and an evaporator in fluid communication, and a heat transfer composition in said system, said heat transfer composition comprising the composition of claim 1 .

The heat transfer system of claim 15 wherein said heat transfer system is selected from the group consisting of automotive air conditioning systems, residential air conditioning systems, commercial air conditioning systems, residential refrigerator systems, residential freezer systems, commercial refrigeration systems, commercial freezer systems, small refrigeration systems, stationary refrigeration systems, chiller air conditioning systems, chiller refrigeration systems, heat pump systems, and combinations of two or more of these.

17. A method of transferring heat to or from a fluid or body comprising causing a phase change in a composition of claim 1 , and exchanging heat with said fluid or body during said phase change.

A refrigeration system comprising a composition in accordance with claim 1 , said system being selected from the group consisting of automotive air conditioning systems, residential air conditioning systems, commercial air conditioning systems, residential refrigerator systems, residential freezer systems, commercial refrigerator systems, commercial freezer systems, chiller air conditioning systems, chiller refrigeration systems, heat pump systems, and combinations of two or more of these.

19. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 wherein the HFO-1234ze present in said composition consists essentially of said transHFO-1234ze.

20. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 wherein the HFO-1234ze present in said composition consists of said transHFO-1234ze.

21. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 further comprising lubricant.

22. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 wherein said lubricant comprises polyol esters (POEs), poly vinyl ethers (PVEs), polyalkylene glycol (PAG), silicone oil or combinations of these.

23. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 wherein said lubricant comprises polyol ester (POE).

24. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 wherein said lubricant comprises poly vinyl ether (PVE).

25. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 having a global warming potential (GWP) of not greater than about 1500.

26. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 having a global warming potential (GWP) of not greater than about 1000.

27. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 having a global warming potential (GWP) of not greater than about 700.

28. The heat transfer composition of claim 1 further comprising of claim 1 further comprising, in addition to said transHFO-1234ze, a —CF3 terminated propene.

29. The heat transfer composition of claim 19 further comprising of claim 1 further comprising, in addition to said transHFO-1234ze, a —CF3 terminated propene.

30. A refrigeration system comprising a composition in accordance with claim 29 , said system being selected from the group consisting of automotive air conditioning systems, residential air conditioning systems, commercial air conditioning systems, residential refrigerator systems, residential freezer systems, commercial refrigerator systems, commercial freezer systems, chiller air conditioning systems, chiller refrigeration systems, heat pump systems, and combinations of two or more of these.
