Abstract

This invention discloses a novel system and method for tracking the capture of mobile device tickets in the form of visual validation objects in efforts to prevent fraud or re-use of the ticket.

Claims (17)

1 . A mobile ticketing system comprising:

A ticketing server system comprised of a ticketing database;

A user device connected to the ticketing server system by a data network, the user device configured to operate a first process that displays a visual validation object and a second process that is adapted to detect the first condition that the user device is also operating a third process that is capable of capturing an image or video clip of the visual validation object being displayed on the user device, and upon the second process detecting such first condition, transmitting a data message to the ticketing server system embodying a ticket fraud detection alert.

2 . The system of claim 1 where said fraud detection alert message is comprised of a ticket identifier associated with a ticket and the displayed visual validation object, and the ticketing server system is adapted to receive the alert message and in response to detecting the ticket identifier, to modify a data record associated with the ticket identifier to indicate a logical state that the ticket associated with the ticket identifier is invalid and storing the modified data record in the database.

3 . The system of claim 2 where the second process is further adapted to detect a second condition that the user device is not connected to the ticketing system and in response to detection of the second condition, store the fraud detection alert message and wait until the second process detects a third condition that the user device is connected to the ticketing system and in response to detection of the third condition, transmit the alert message to the ticketing system.

4 . The system of claim 2 where the ticketing system is further adapted to determine by automatic inspection of the data record, a message destination associated with a venue associated with the ticket identifier and in response to such determination, transmit a message comprised of a ticket fraud alert to the determined destination.

5 . The system of claim 1 where the second process is adapted to transmit within the alert message a code that identifies at least one of: the user, the user's device or a ticket associated with the visual validation display object.

6 . The system of claim 5 where the unique code is at least one of: a user identifier, a security token associated with the ticket or a security token associated with the user device, a user device identifier, the location of the user device or a ticket identifier.

7 . The system of claim 5 where the unique code encodes the identity of a component of the user interface being displayed on the user device at the time the third process was detected.

8 . The system of claim 1 where the ticketing server system database is adapted to provide the identity of at least one recipient authorized to automatically receive an alert message that the ticket associated with the transmitted alert is subject to ticketing fraud and the ticketing system is adapted to transmit an alert message to the authorized recipient.

9 . The system of claim 1 where the ticketing system is further adapted to send instructions over the data network to the first process operating on the user device instructions to initiate a new visual validation display object acquisition process in order to re-authenticate the user and user device and in response to detecting a second condition that the authentication is completed, to transmit to the user device at least one new visual validation object to replace the invalid ticket.

10 . The system of claim 1 where the ticketing system is further adapted to send instructions over the data network to the first process operating on the user device instructions to cause the user device to recite as text on the user device screen or render as an audio playback or both, a warning that the ticketing fraud has been detected.

11 . The system of claim 1 where the ticketing server is adapted to determine the number of times the user of the user device has generated a ticketing fraud alert, and, when the determined number of times exceeds a predetermined value, set all of the tickets in the ticket database associated with the user to an invalid state.

12 . The system of claim 1 where the second process is adapted to trap on the condition that a button or other user interface actuation that is automatically determined to be associated with screen image or screen video capture by means of referencing a data table stored on the user device that describes characteristics of the third process.

13 . The system of claim 12 where the second process polls the user device.

14 . The system of claim 12 where the second process responds to an interrupt.

15 . The system of claim 1 where the second process is adapted to detect what processes are running on the user device at the same time as the first process by inspection of a running process table and determining if any process names listed in the process table sufficiently match any names listed in a data table stored on the user device that lists the names of processes that are capable of acting as the third process.
