Abstract

The invention relates to new, hydrolysis-stable, aqueous polyurethane-polyurea dispersions based on polycarbonate-polyols, to a process for preparing them and to their use in coating materials.

Claims (64)

1 - 7 . (canceled)

8 . A process for coating a substrate comprising applying a coating composition to at least a portion of the substrate, wherein:

(a) the coating composition comprises an aqueous polyurethane-polyurea dispersion prepared from synthesis components comprising:

I.1) one or more polyisocyanates,

I.2) one or more polycarbonate polyols having number-average molecular weights of 1000 to 3000 g/mol, having a hydroxyl number of 18 to 56 mg KOH/g, and an OH functionality of 1.8 to 2.2 obtained by reacting a carbonate or phosgene with one or more diols containing 40 to 100 wt % hexanediol

I.3) one or more compounds having molecular weights of 62 to 400 g/mol and possessing two or more hydroxyl and/or amino groups,

I.4) optionally one or more compounds possessing a hydroxyl or amino group,

I.5) one or more isocyanate-reactive, ionically or potentially ionically hydrophilicizing compounds comprising a sulphonic acid and/or salt thereof, and

I.6) optionally one or more isocyanate-reactive, nonionically hydrophilicizing compounds, and

b) the substrate comprises nylon fabric.

9 . The process of claim 8 , wherein the one or more diols contain 100 wt. % hexanediol.

10 . A nylon fabric substrate at least partially coated by the process of claim 8 .

11 . The process of claim 8 , wherein the polyurethane-polyurea comprises:

(a) 5% to 30% by weight of component I.1),

(b) 60% to 90% by weight of component I.2),

(c) 0.5 to 30% by weight of the sum of compounds I.3) and I.4),

(d) 0.1% to 5% by weight of component I.5),

(e) 0% to 10% by weight of component I.6),

wherein the sum of I.5) and I.6) is 0.1% to 15% by weight and the sum of the components I.1)-I.6) adds up to 100% by weight.

12 . The process of claim 11 , wherein the polyurethane-polyurea comprises:

(a) 5% to 25% by weight of component I.1),

(b) 65% to 85% by weight of component I.2),

(c) 0.5 to 25% by weight of the sum of compounds I.3) and I.4),

(d) 0.1% to 4% by weight of component I.5), and

(e) 0% to 10% by weight of component I.6),

wherein the sum of I.5) and I.6) is 0.1% to 14% by weight and the sum of the components I.1)-I.6) adds up to 100% by weight.

13 . The process of claim 12 , wherein the polyurethane-polyurea comprises:

(a) 13% to 20% by weight of component I.1),

(b) 65% to 80% by weight of component I.2),

(c) 0.5 to 14% by weight of the sum of compounds I.3) and I.4),

(d) 0.1% to 3.5% by weight of component I.5), and

(e) 1% to 6% by weight of component I.6),

wherein the sum of I.5) and I.6) is 0.1% to 13.5% by weight and the sum of the components I.1)-I.6) adds up to 100% by weight.

14 . A process for coating a substrate comprising applying a coating composition to at least a portion of the substrate, wherein:

(a) the coating composition comprises an aqueous polyurethane-polyurea dispersion prepared from synthesis components comprising:

I.1) one or more polyisocyanates comprising a mixture of hexamethylene diisocyanate and isophorone diisocyanate,

I.2) one or more polyols consisting of polycarbonate polyols having a number-average molecular weight of 1000 to 3000 g/mol, a hydroxyl number of 18 to 56 mg KOH/g, and an OH functionality of 1.8 to 2.2 which are obtained by reacting a carbonate or phosgene with one or more diols containing 40 to 100 wt. % hexanediol,

I.3) a diamine,

I.4) optionally one or more compounds possessing a hydroxyl or amino group,

I.5) one or more isocyanate-reactive, ionically or potentially ionically hydrophilicizing compounds comprising a sulphonic acid and/or salt thereof, and

I.6) one or more isocyanate-reactive, nonionically hydrophilicizing compounds comprising a copolymer of ethylene oxide with propylene oxide, having an ethylene oxide mass fraction of greater than 50% and a molecular weight of 1200 to 4500 g/mol, and

(b) the substrate comprises nylon fabric.

15 . The process of claim 14 , wherein the one or more diols contain 100 wt. % hexanediol.

16 . The process of claim 15 , wherein the polyurethane-polyurea comprises:

(a) 5% to 30% by weight of component I.1),

(b) 60% to 90% by weight of component I.2),

(c) 0.5 to 30% by weight of the sum of compounds I.3) and I.4),

(d) 0.1% to 5% by weight of component I.5),

(e) 0% to 10% by weight of component I.6),

wherein the sum of I.5) and I.6) is 0.1% to 15% by weight and the sum of the components I.1)-I.6) adds up to 100% by weight.

17 . The process of claim 16 , wherein the polyurethane-polyurea comprises:

(a) 5% to 25% by weight of component I.1),

(b) 65% to 85% by weight of component I.2),

(c) 0.5 to 25% by weight of the sum of compounds I.3) and I.4),

(d) 0.1% to 4% by weight of component I.5), and

(e) 0% to 10% by weight of component I.6),

wherein the sum of I.5) and I.6) is 0.1% to 14% by weight and the sum of the components I.1)-I.6) adds up to 100% by weight.

18 . The process of claim 17 , wherein the polyurethane-polyurea comprises:

(a) 13% to 20% by weight of component I.1),

(b) 65% to 80% by weight of component I.2),

(c) 0.5 to 14% by weight of the sum of compounds I.3) and I.4),

(d) 0.1% to 3.5% by weight of component I.5), and

(e) 1% to 6% by weight of component I.6),

wherein the sum of I.5) and I.6) is 0.1% to 13.5% by weight and the sum of the components I.1)-I.6) adds up to 100% by weight.
