Abstract

A system and method for displaying spine groups is provided. Unique spine groups selected from a set of spine groups are placed around a shape defined in a display. One of the spine groups remaining in the set is selected and compared to each of the unique spine groups in the display. The unique spine group that is most similar to the selected spine group is identified. The selected spine group is placed adjacent to the unique spine group that is most similar.

Claims (44)

1. A system for displaying spine groups, comprising the at least one processor operable to function as:

a unique group placement module to place unique spine groups selected from a set of spine groups around a shape defined in a display;

a selection module to select one of the spine groups remaining in the set;

a comparison module to compare the selected spine group to each of the unique spine groups in the display;

an identification module to identify the unique spine group that is most similar to the selected spine group; and

a group placement module to place the selected spine group adjacent to the unique spine group that is most similar.

2. A system according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a vector module to generate a group concept score vector for each unique spine group and each remaining spine group by aggregating cluster theme concepts associated with that spine group, wherein each cluster theme concept is associated with a score.

3. A system according to claim 2 , further comprising:

a scoring module to limit a number of the aggregated cluster theme concepts to those top cluster theme concepts associated with a high score.

4. A system according to claim 1 , wherein the shape defined in the display comprises at least two concentric circles and the unique spine groups are placed around an innermost circle of the concentric circles.

5. A system according to claim 4 , wherein the group placement module positions the selected spine group at a radius of the innermost circle at an angle of the unique spine group that is most similar.

6. A system according to claim 4 , further comprising:

a label module to place descriptive labels for the spine groups in the display around an outermost circle of the concentric circles.

7. A system according to claim 1 , wherein each spine group comprises one or more of a unique spine of clusters, other cluster spines, and singleton clusters.

8. A system according to claim 7 , further comprising:

a grafting module to graft at least one of the other cluster spines to the unique spine of clusters.

9. A system according to claim 8 , further comprising:

a spine placement module to place another one of the other cluster spines adjacent to the unique cluster spine or the grafted cluster spine that is most similar.

10. A system according to claim 7 , further comprising:

a cluster placement module to place each singleton cluster proximate to one or more of the cluster spines to which that singleton cluster is most similar.

11. A method for displaying spine groups, comprising the steps of:

placing unique spine groups selected from a set of spine groups around a shape defined in a display;

selecting one of the spine groups remaining in the set;

comparing the selected spine group to each of the unique spine groups in the display;

identifying the unique spine group that is most similar to the selected spine group; and

placing the selected spine group adjacent to the unique spine group that is most similar,

wherein the steps are performed using a suitably-programmed computer.

12. A method according to claim 11 , further comprising:

generating a group concept score vector by aggregating cluster theme concepts associated with the spine, wherein each cluster theme concept is associated with a score.

13. A method according to claim 12 , further comprising:

limiting a number of the aggregated cluster theme concepts to those top cluster theme concepts associated with a high score.

14. A method according to claim 11 , wherein the shape defined in the display comprises at least two concentric circles and the unique spine groups are placed around an innermost circle of the concentric circles.

15. A method according to claim 14 , further comprising:

positioning the selected spine group at a radius of the innermost circle at an angle of the unique spine group that is most similar.

16. A method according to claim 14 , further comprising:

placing descriptive labels for the spine groups in the display around an outermost circle of the concentric circles.

17. A method according to claim 11 , wherein each spine group comprises one or more of a unique spine of clusters, other cluster spines, and singleton clusters.

18. A method according to claim 17 , further comprising:

grafting at least one of the other cluster spines to the unique spine of clusters.

19. A method according to claim 18 , further comprising:

placing a further one of the other cluster spines adjacent to the unique spine of clusters or the grafted cluster spine that is most similar.

20. A method according to claim 17 , further comprising:

placing each singleton cluster proximate to one or more of the cluster spines to which that singleton cluster is most similar.
