Abstract

A system, apparatus and method is disclosed for multiband wireless communication. Frequency bands and/or transmission formats are identified as available within a range for wireless communication. The system evaluates signal quality metrics for each frequency band and selects a communication method based on the evaluation. Multiple frequency bands and communication methods can be utilized by the system such that a combination of licensed, unlicensed, semilicensed, and overlapped frequency bands can be simultaneously used for communication. The system monitors communications and can report link performance for adaptive control of the selected communication methods.

4. The frequency band adaptive wireless communication system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the at least two frequency bands corresponds to at least one of a licensed frequency band, an unlicensed frequency band, a semi-licensed frequency band, or an overlapped frequency band.

5. The frequency band adaptive wireless communication system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to evaluate the available frequency bands based at least in part on a transmission goal.

6. The frequency band adaptive wireless communication system of claim 5 , wherein the transmission goal comprises at least one of maximum data throughput, largest coverage distance, or highest link reliability.

7. The frequency band adaptive wireless communication system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are is further configured to monitor at least one transmission performance metric of the established radio communication link.

8. The frequency band adaptive wireless communication system of claim 7 , wherein the at least one transmission performance metric comprises at least one of bit error rate (BER), frame-error rate (FER), block-error-rate (BLER), or mean-square-error (MSE).

9. The frequency band adaptive wireless communication system of claim 7 , wherein based at least in part on a determination that the at least one transmission performance metric does not satisfy a performance threshold, the one or more processors are further configured to reevaluate the available frequency bands.

10. A method, comprising:

receiving an identification of available frequency bands for a radio communication link, wherein the available frequency bands are identified from a plurality of frequency bands based at least in part on signal levels of the plurality of frequency bands;

evaluating the available frequency bands based at least in part on one or more radio signal quality metrics associated with a link of each of the available frequency bands;

selecting at least two frequency bands of the available frequency bands for the radio communication link based at least in part on the evaluation of the available frequency bands; and
