Abstract

Embodiment of systems and methods for the sending, delivery or receiving of faxes are disclosed herein. In particular, certain embodiments include a fax connector that may be deployed at users' sites, and a fax registration system that may be deployed remotely from these users' site. The fax connector can be accessed at a user's site over a computer based network in order to perform functions associated with faxing, including sending, receiving and obtaining status on faxes. The fax connector deployed at a sending user's site communicates with the fax registration system to obtain destination data associated with a recipient user's fax connector and transmits the fax to the destination fax connector over the computer based network based on the destination data obtained from the registration system. The fax can then be presented to the recipient at the recipient user's site.

Claims (31)

1. A system for faxing, comprising:

a computer device with a processor, wherein the computer device is coupled to a fax registration system over a network and the computer platform device comprises a computer readable memory having instruction executable for implementing a fax connector configured for:

receiving a request to send a fax at a sending fax system, wherein the fax is associated with a destination on a publicly switched telephone network (PSTN);

determining a first location on a computer based network associated with the destination on the PSTN, without involvement of a sender or a recipient, by sending a request for the first location associated with the destination telephone number to a fax registration system and receiving the first location associated with the destination on the PSTN at the sending fax system, wherein the first location is associated with a proxy receiver system; and

transmitting the fax from the sending fax system to the first location associated with the proxy receiver system over the computer based network, wherein, at the proxy receiver system, a second location on the computer network associated with the destination on the PSTN is determined and the fax is transmitted from the proxy receiver system to the second location over the computer based network.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fax connector is further configured for determining if an error occurred while transmitting the fax and if an error occurred, sending the fax to the destination on the PSTN over the PSTN.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the fax connector is further configured for determining if the destination on the PSTN is one of a first set of registered destinations at the sending fax system.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the fax connector is further configured for synchronizing the first set of registered destinations at the sending fax system with a second set of registered destinations at the fax registration system.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the destination on the PSTN was registered at the fax registration system in association with the second location on the computer based network.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fax registration system is deployed on a cloud based computing platform.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the first location on the computer based network is provided by the cloud based computing platform.

8. A method for faxing, comprising:

receiving a request to send a fax at a sending fax system, wherein the fax is associated with a destination on a publicly switched telephone network (PSTN);

determining a first location on a computer based network associated with the destination on the PSTN, without involvement of a sender or a recipient, by sending a request for the first location associated with the destination telephone number to a fax registration system and receiving the first location associated with the destination on the PSTN at the sending fax system, wherein the first location is associated with a proxy receiver system; and

transmitting the fax from the sending fax system to the first location associated with the proxy receiver system over the computer based network, wherein, at the proxy receiver system, a second location on the computer network associated with the destination on the PSTN is determined and the fax is transmitted from the proxy receiver system to the second location over the computer based network.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising determining if an error occurred while transmitting the fax and if an error occurred, sending the fax to the destination on the PSTN over the PSTN.

10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising determining if the destination on the PSTN is one of a first set of registered destinations at the sending fax system.

11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising synchronizing the first set of registered destinations at the sending fax system with a second set of registered destinations at the fax registration system.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the destination on the PSTN was registered at the fax registration system in association with the second location on the computer based network.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the fax registration system is deployed on a cloud based computing platform.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the first location on the computer based network is provided by the cloud based computing platform.

15. A non-transitory computer readable medium, comprising instructions for:

receiving a request to send a fax at a sending fax system, wherein the fax is associated with a destination on a publicly switched telephone network (PSTN);

determining a first location on a computer based network associated with the destination on the PSTN, without involvement of a sender or a recipient, by sending a request for the first location associated with the destination telephone number to a fax registration system and receiving the first location associated with the destination on the PSTN at the sending fax system, wherein the first location is associated with a proxy receiver system; and

transmitting the fax from the sending fax system to the first location associated with the proxy receiver system over the computer based network, wherein, at the proxy receiver system, a second location on the computer network associated with the destination on the PSTN is determined and the fax is transmitted from the proxy receiver system to the second location over the computer based network.

16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are further for determining if an error occurred while transmitting the fax and if an error occurred, sending the fax to the destination on the PSTN over the PSTN.

17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the instructions are further for determining if the destination on the PSTN is one of a first set of registered destinations at the sending fax system.

18. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the instructions are further for synchronizing the first set of registered destinations at the sending fax system with a second set of registered destinations at the fax registration system.

19. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the destination on the PSTN was registered at the fax registration system in association with the second location on the computer based network.

20. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the fax registration system is deployed on a cloud based computing platform.

21. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 20 , wherein the first location on the computer based network is provided by the cloud based computing platform.
