Abstract

A pricing rule is created for governing a manner in which pricing of cloud services is adjusted. The pricing rule includes pricing rule configuration information defining an outcome of the pricing rule when applied to cloud service prices and a pricing rule context defining a boundary within which the pricing rule must be implemented to thereby cause the pricing rule to be applied to the cloud service prices. The pricing rule configuration information can specify a pricing adjustment mode, a type of price upon which the pricing rule is to be applied, an entity to which the outcome of pricing rule is to be allocated, and a category of charge upon which the pricing rule is to be applied. The pricing rule context can include a context basis and one or more context basis selections.

Claims (50)

1 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having tangibly embodied thereon and accessible therefrom instructions interpretable by at least one data processing device, the instructions are configured for causing the at least one data processing device to perform a method enabling brokering of cloud services, the method comprising:

instantiating an instance of a pricing rule used for governing a manner in which pricing of cloud services is adjusted, wherein the pricing rule includes pricing rule configuration information defining an outcome of the pricing rule when applied to cloud service prices and a pricing rule context defining a boundary within which the pricing rule must be implemented to thereby cause the pricing rule to be applied to the cloud service prices; and

applying the pricing rule to the cloud service prices in accordance with the pricing rule configuration information and the pricing rule context.

2 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 wherein the pricing rule configuration information enables the pricing rule to be configured for being selectively applied for pricing indicated during estimation of cloud services and to actual charges incurred for said cloud services.

3 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 wherein the pricing rule configuration information enables the pricing rule to be configured for being selectively applied for each one of pricing indicated during estimation of cloud services, actual charges incurred for said cloud services, and both pricing indicated during estimation of said cloud services and actual charges incurred for said cloud services.

4 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 wherein the pricing rule configuration information specifies:

a pricing adjustment mode;

a type of price upon which the pricing rule is to be applied;

an entity to which the outcome of pricing rule is to be allocated; and

a category of charge upon which the pricing rule is to be applied.

5 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 4 wherein the pricing rule configuration information enables the pricing rule to be configured for being selectively applied for each one of pricing indicated during estimation of cloud services, actual charges incurred for said cloud services, and both pricing indicated during estimation of said cloud services and actual charges incurred for said cloud services.

6 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 5 wherein the pricing rule configuration information enables the pricing rule to be configured for allowing a representation of the pricing rule to be visible to a customer associated with the cloud service prices.

7 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 wherein the pricing rule context includes:

a context basis; and

one or more context basis selections.

8 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 wherein the pricing rule configuration information specifies:

a pricing adjustment mode;

a type of price upon which the pricing rule is to be applied;

an entity to which the outcome of pricing rule is to be allocated; and

a category of charge upon which the pricing rule is to be applied.

9 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 wherein the pricing rule configuration information enables the pricing rule to be configured for being selectively applied for each one of pricing indicated during estimation of cloud services, actual charges incurred for said cloud services, and both pricing indicated during estimation of said cloud services and actual charges incurred for said cloud services.

10 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 wherein the pricing rule configuration information enables the pricing rule to be configured for allowing a representation of the pricing rule to be visible to a customer associated with the cloud service prices.

11 . A method, comprising:

receiving, by a system configured to facilitate brokering of cloud services, a request for instantiating an instance of a pricing rule used for governing a manner in which pricing of cloud services is adjusted,

receiving, by the system configured to facilitate brokering of cloud services, pricing rule configuration information after receiving the request for instantiating the instance of the pricing rule, wherein the pricing rule configuration information defines an outcome of the pricing rule when applied to cloud service prices;

receiving, by the system configured to facilitate brokering of cloud services, a pricing rule context after receiving the request for instantiating the instance of the pricing rule, wherein the pricing rule context defines a boundary within which the pricing rule must be implemented to thereby cause the pricing rule to be applied to the cloud service prices; and

applying, by the system configured to facilitate brokering of cloud services, the pricing rule to the cloud service prices after receiving the pricing rule configuration information and the pricing rule context.

12 . The method of claim 11 wherein the pricing rule configuration information enables the pricing rule to be configured for being selectively applied for pricing indicated during estimation of cloud services and to actual charges incurred for said cloud services.

13 . The method of claim 11 wherein the pricing rule configuration information enables the pricing rule to be configured for being selectively applied for each one of pricing indicated during estimation of cloud services, actual charges incurred for said cloud services, and both pricing indicated during estimation of said cloud services and actual charges incurred for said cloud services.

14 . The method of claim 11 wherein the pricing rule configuration information specifies:

a pricing adjustment mode;

a type of price upon which the pricing rule is to be applied;

an entity to which the outcome of pricing rule is to be allocated; and

a category of charge upon which the pricing rule is to be applied.

15 . The method um of claim 11 wherein the pricing rule context includes:

a context basis; and

one or more context basis selections.

16 . A cloud services brokerage system, comprising:

a cloud service order module enabling a cloud service consumer to generate orders for cloud services offered by a cloud service provider; and

a policy manager coupled to the cloud service order module, wherein the policy manager enables instantiation of a pricing rule used for governing a manner in which pricing of cloud services is adjusted, wherein the pricing rule includes pricing rule configuration information defining an outcome of the pricing rule when applied to cloud service prices and a pricing rule context defining a boundary within which the pricing rule must be implemented to thereby cause the pricing rule to be applied to the cloud service prices.

17 . The cloud services brokerage system of claim 16 wherein the pricing rule configuration information enables the pricing rule to be configured for being selectively applied for pricing indicated during estimation of cloud services and to actual charges incurred for said cloud services.

18 . The cloud services brokerage system of claim 16 wherein the pricing rule configuration information enables the pricing rule to be configured for being selectively applied for each one of pricing indicated during estimation of cloud services, actual charges incurred for said cloud services, and both pricing indicated during estimation of said cloud services and actual charges incurred for said cloud services.

19 . The cloud services brokerage system of claim 16 wherein the pricing rule configuration information specifies:

a pricing adjustment mode;

a type of price upon which the pricing rule is to be applied;

an entity to which the outcome of pricing rule is to be allocated; and

a category of charge upon which the pricing rule is to be applied.

20 . The cloud services brokerage system um of claim 16 wherein the pricing rule context includes:

a context basis; and

one or more context basis selections.
