Abstract

A method for computer-aided mapping of system information medium access control protocol messages onto a plurality of transport channels for transmission using an orthogonal frequency division multiple access method, wherein a scheduling of system information data packets information in the context of the mapping on a transport channel of the plurality of transport channels is carried out dependent on the type of the system information.

Claims (37)

1. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media comprising instructions to cause a base station, upon execution of the instructions, to:

receive data packets over a broadcast control channel (BCCH);

generate, based on the data packets, one or more first system information blocks that include a system frame number, a public land mobile network identity, or a cell identity, wherein one or more of the first system information blocks indicate how a system information message is to be transmitted;

schedule the one or more first system information blocks for transmission using a fixed schedule;

generate, based on the data packets, second system information blocks;

schedule the second system information blocks, using dynamic scheduling, for transmission in the system information message;

map a first system information block of the one or more first system information blocks to a broadcast channel;

map the system information message to another channel; and

transmit the first system information block of the one or more first system information blocks and the system information message.

2. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further to use Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access to transmit the one or more first system information blocks and the system information message.

3. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the second system information blocks include cell re-selection information.

4. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the one or more first system information blocks and the second system information blocks are received from the BCCH in a medium access control (MAC) layer.

5. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further to schedule each system information block based on a corresponding type of data packet received over the BCCH.

6. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein data packets for the second system information blocks are received more often than data packets for the one or more first system information blocks.

7. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further to indicate, in one or more of the first system information blocks, a frequency band used to transmit the system information message.

8. A base station comprising:

a medium access control unit to:

generate, based on data packets received over a broadcast control channel (BCCH), one or more first system information blocks that include an indication of how a system information message is to be transmitted;

schedule the one or more first system information blocks for transmission using a fixed schedule;

generate, based on the data packets, second system information blocks;

schedule the second system information blocks, using dynamic scheduling, for transmission in the system information message;

map a first system information block of the one or more first system information blocks to a broadcast channel; and

map the system information message to another channel; and

a transmitter to transmit the first system information block of the one or more first system information blocks and the system information message.

9. The base station of claim 8 , wherein the transmitter is further to use Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access to transmit the one or more first system information blocks and the system information message.

10. The base station of claim 8 , wherein the second system information blocks include cell re-selection information.

11. The base station of claim 8 , wherein the one or more first system information blocks and the second system information blocks are received from the BCCH in a medium access control (MAC) layer.

12. The base station of claim 8 , wherein the medium access control unit is further to schedule each system information block based on a corresponding type of data packet received over the BCCH.

13. The base station of claim 8 , wherein data packets for the second system information blocks are received more often than data packets for the one or more first system information blocks.

14. The base station of claim 8 , wherein the medium access control unit is further to indicate, in one or more of the first system information blocks, a frequency band used to transmit the system information message.

15. A user equipment (UE) to:

identify, according to a fixed schedule, one or more first system information blocks received by the UE, wherein the one or more first system information blocks include a system frame number, a public land mobile network identity, or a cell identity, and wherein one or more of the first system information blocks include an indication of how a system information message is to be transmitted by a base station to the UE;

identify, in the one or more first system information blocks, the indication; and

identify, based on the indication, second system information blocks that were scheduled for transmission in the system information message using dynamic scheduling.

16. The UE of claim 15 , wherein the one or more first system information blocks and the system information message were transmitted according to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access transmission.

17. The UE of claim 15 , wherein the second system information blocks include cell re-selection information.

18. The UE of claim 15 , wherein the UE is further to identify, in one or more of the first system information blocks, a frequency band used to transmit the system information message.
