Abstract

A transmission apparatus controls a transport format for retransmission of data packets transmitted uplink to a receiving apparatus via at least one data channel using an automatic repeat request (ARQ) protocol. A transmitter transmits an uplink data packet via the data channel to the receiving apparatus, and a receiver receives first information along with second information from the receiving apparatus. The first information is used for determination whether to perform a retransmission of the uplink data packet at the transmission apparatus, and the second information indicates a transport format for the retransmission. The transmitter transmits the retransmission from the transmission apparatus to the receiving apparatus according to the transport format indicated in the second information element using a transmission timing based on the ARQ protocol.

Claims (31)

1. A method for controlling a transport format for retransmissions of data packets transmitted on uplink from a User Equipment (UE) to a radio station via at least one uplink data channel using a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) protocol, the method comprising:

transmitting an uplink data packet via the uplink data channel from the UE to the radio station,

receiving first information and second information from the radio station at the UE,

wherein the first information is used for determination whether to perform a retransmission of the uplink data packet at the UE and the second information indicates a transport format for the retransmission, and

transmitting the retransmission from the UE to the receiving apparatus according to the transport format indicated by the second information using a transmission timing based on the HARQ protocol.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first information is an ACK/NACK feedback message and the second information is a control message transmitted simultaneously with the ACK/NACK feedback message.

3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the control message is transmitted simultaneously with the ACK/NACK feedback message.

4. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the control message is a TFC (Transmission Format Combination) control message.

5. The method according to claim 4 , wherein the transport format in the control message indicates an amount of information in the retransmission for successfully decoding an HARQ combined data packet.

6. The method according to according to claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting the uplink data packet via a first uplink data channel from the UE to the radio station, and

transmitting the retransmission via a second uplink data channel from the UE to the radio station.

7. The method according to claim 6 , wherein a transmission time interval of the first uplink data channel is shorter than a transmission time interval of the second uplink data channel.

8. The method in claim 1 , wherein a transmission power level of the first uplink data channel is different than a transmission power level of the second uplink data channel.

9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the transmitted uplink data packet and its retransmission are transmitted via at least one dedicated uplink transport channel.

10. A communications apparatus for a User Equipment (UE) for controlling a transport format for retransmissions of data packets transmitted on uplink to a radio station via at least one uplink data channel using a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) protocol, the communications apparatus comprising:

a transmitter configured to transmit an uplink data packet via the uplink data channel to a radio station,

a receiver configured to receive first information and second information from the radio station,

a processor that determines whether to perform a retransmission of the uplink data packet from the communication apparatus based on the first information,

wherein the second information element indicates a transport format for the retransmission, and

wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit the retransmission from the communication apparatus to the radio station according to the transport format indicated in the second information using a transmission timing based on the HARQ protocol.

11. The communications apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the first information is an ACK/NACK feedback message and the second information is a control message.

12. The communications apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit the ACK/NACK feedback message in parallel with the ACK/NACK feedback message.

13. The communications apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein the control message is a TFC (Transmission Format Combination) control message.

14. The communications apparatus according to claim 13 , wherein the transport format in the control message indicates an amount of information in the retransmission for successfully decoding an HARQ combined data packet.

15. The communications apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the transmitter is configured to:

transmit the uplink data packet via a first uplink data channel from the UE communications apparatus to the radio station, and

transmit the retransmission via a second uplink data channel from the UE communications apparatus to the radio station.

16. The communications apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein a transmission time interval of the first uplink data channel is shorter than a transmission time interval of the second uplink data channel.

17. The communications apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein a transmission power level of the first uplink data channel is different than a transmission power level of the second uplink data channel.

18. The communications apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit the uplink data packet and its retransmission via at least one dedicated unlink transport channel.
