Abstract

Handling a message comprises: classifying an incoming message for a recipient, storing the classified message and providing a notification to the recipient, wherein the notification includes summary information about the classified message and an interface that allows the recipient to operate on the classified message.

Claims (32)

1. A method for classifying suspicious messages, the method comprising:

sending a notification to a network interface of a computing device, wherein the notification includes information summarizing the content of a message that has been quarantined for being suspicious, and a user interface operational to interact with the notification;

identifying that a user associated with the computing device is allowed to select from among a plurality of view links, the identification based on one or more settings delegating control to the identified user;

receiving a view link selection via the user interface, wherein the selected view link is associated with at least one suspicious message identified from a plurality of quarantined suspicious messages;

generating a web page display of the plurality of suspicious messages including the at least one identified suspicious message on the computing device, wherein the plurality of suspicious messages are coalesced into the notification and the notification associates a selectable un-junk link, a selectable view link, and a reason for quarantining each respective message of the plurality of suspicious messages; and

receiving a selection of an un-junk link related to one of the suspicious messages via the user interface, wherein the related suspicious message is delivered to a recipient based on the selection of the un-junk link.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the suspicious message is addressed to a first mailing list to which the user is subscribed.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the suspicious message is also addressed to the user, and wherein the computing device receives a single notification indicating that the suspicious message was addressed to the user and to the first mailing list.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the suspicious message is also addressed a second mailing list that the user subscribes to and the computing device receives a single notification indicating that the suspicious message was addressed to the first mailing list and to the second mailing list.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the suspicious message is addressed to a plurality of recipients, a message filter generates a notification for each of the plurality of recipients, and the message filter prevents the suspicious message from being delivered the plurality of recipients and to the user.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the message is at least one of an electronic mail message, an instant message, a text message, a picture message, or a multimedia message.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the computing device receives the suspicious message as a regular message after receiving a selection of the un-junk link associated with the suspicious message via the interface at the computing device.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising authenticating the user before allowing the user to select the view link or the un-junk link.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user has designated a delegate for receiving the notification and the method further comprising redirecting the notification to the designated delegate.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving an additional suspicious message;

identifying that an additional suspicious message is addressed to a non-existent recipient; and

deleting the additional suspicious message based on the additional suspicious message being addressed to the non-existent recipient.

11. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium having embodied thereon a program executable by a processor to perform a method for classifying suspicious messages, the method comprising:

sending a notification to a network interface of a computing device, wherein the notification includes information summarizing the content of a message that has been quarantined for being suspicious, and a user interface operational to interact with the notification;

identifying that a user associated with the computing device is allowed to select from among a plurality of view links, the identification based on one or more settings delegating control to the identified user;

receiving a view link selection via the user interface, wherein the selected view link is associated with at least one suspicious message identified from a plurality of quarantined suspicious messages;

generating a web page display of the plurality of suspicious messages including the at least one identified suspicious message on the computing device, wherein the plurality of suspicious messages are coalesced into the notification and the notification associates a selectable un-junk link, a selectable view link, and a reason for quarantining each respective message of the plurality of suspicious messages; and

receiving a selection of an un-junk link related to one of the suspicious messages via the user interface, wherein the related suspicious message is delivered to a recipient based on the selection of the un-junk link.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the suspicious message is addressed to a first mailing list to which the user is subscribed.

13. The non-transitory computer: readable storage medium of claim 12 , wherein the suspicious message is also addressed to the user and the computing device receives a single notification indicating that the suspicious message was addressed to the user and to the first mailing list.

14. The non-transitory computer: readable storage medium of claim 12 , wherein the suspicious message is also addressed a second mailing list that the user subscribes to, and the computing device receives a single notification indicating that the suspicious message was addressed to the first mailing list and to the second mailing list.

15. The non-transitory computer: readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the message is addressed to a plurality of recipients, a message filter generates a notification for each of the plurality of recipients, and the message filter prevents the suspicious message from being delivered the plurality of recipients and to the user.

16. The non-transitory computer: readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the message is at least one of an electronic mail message, a text message, a picture message, or a multimedia message.

17. The non-transitory computer: readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the computing device receives the suspicious message as a regular message after receiving a selection of the un-junk link in the interface by the computing device.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , further comprising authenticating the identified user before allowing the identified user to select the view line or the un-junk link.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the user has designated a delegate for receiving the notification and the program is further executable to redirect the notification to the designated delegate.
