Abstract

A method for decoding a video frame includes receiving a slice in a video decoder, identifying the slice as one of at least a first predicted slice and a second predicted slice, receiving information used to determine a context initialization method corresponding to the slice, and initializing, based on the received information, one of a first context initialization method and a second context initialization method associated with the slice, and decoding the video frame using the slice and one of the first context initialization method and the second context initialization method.

Claims (17)

1. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing computer-readable instructions that, when executed by a processor of an apparatus, instructs the processor to perform a method for decoding a video frame, the method comprising:

identifying whether a slice type is B-slice type;

decoding information including: (i) first information indicating a number of second regions in a first region, and (ii) second information indicating an offset of an i-th second region from an (i−1)th second region in a bitstream, wherein the video frame includes one or more of the first region(s) and one or more of the second region(s); and

initializing a Context-adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) context associated with the B-slice type using a flag for determining an initialization method, the initialization method indicating one of a first initialization method and a second initialization method; wherein

in a case that the identified slice type is the B-slice type and a value of the flag is equal to a first value, the CABAC context associated with the B-slice type is initialized using the first initialization method as the initialization method,

in a case that the identified slice type is the B-slice type and a value of the flag is equal to a second value, the CABAC context associated with the B-slice type is initialized using the second initialization method as the initialization method,

the second initialization method differs from the first initialization method, and

the second region(s) are a largest coding unit (LCU) row.

2. An apparatus for decoding a video frame, the apparatus comprising:

a decoding processor, the decoding processor being implemented with hardware, wherein:

the decoding processor identifies whether a slice type is B-slice type;

the decoding processor decodes information including: (i) first information indicating a number of second regions in a first region, and (ii) second information indicating an offset of an i-th second region from an (i−1)th second region in a bitstream, wherein the video frame includes one or more of the first region(s) and one or more of the second region(s); and

the decoding processor initializes a Context-adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) context associated with the B-slice type using a flag for determining an initialization method, wherein the initialization method indicates one of a first initialization method and a second initialization method; wherein

in a case that the identified slice type is the B-slice type and a value of the flag is equal to a first value, the decoding processor initializes the CABAC context associated with the B-slice type using the first initialization method as the initialization method,

in a case that the identified slice type is the B-slice type and a value of the flag is equal to a second value, the decoding processor initializes the CABAC context associated with the B-slice type using the second initialization method as the initialization method,

the second initialization method differs from the first initialization method, and

the second region(s) are a largest coding unit (LCU) row.
