In a method for manufacturing floor panels that have at least a substrate and a top layer provided on the substrate, the top layer including a thermoplastic layer that is translucent or transparent, the method may involve providing the top layer, including the thermoplastic layer, on the substrate. The method may also involve heating at least the thermoplastic layer, and structuring the thermoplastic layer using a mechanical press element.
1. A floor panel comprising:
a substrate; and
a top layer glued to the substrate;
wherein the substrate is a water resistant synthetic material board;
wherein the top layer includes a back layer provided on the substrate, a print provided on a synthetic material film, and a transparent wear layer provided on the print, such that the synthetic material film is located between the back layer and the transparent wear layer, and such that the print is located between the synthetic material film and the transparent wear layer;
wherein the synthetic material board is an extruded board including synthetic material and filler;
wherein each of the back layer and the transparent wear layer is a vinyl layer;
wherein the floor panel is of rectangular shape defined by two pairs of opposite edges and has a thickness between 7 and 10 millimeters;
wherein the top layer has a thickness of 0.5 to 3 millimeters; and
wherein at least at one pair of opposite edges the floor panel includes mechanical coupling means having profiles formed for at least 70 percent of their circumference in the synthetic material board;
wherein the mechanical coupling means is for enabling
a vertical locking between adjacent floor panels at the respective edges, the vertical locking being active perpendicular to the plane of coupled floor panels, and
enabling a horizontal locking between adjacent floor panels at the respective edges, the horizontal locking being active in the plane of coupled floor panels and perpendicular to the respective edges.
2. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the back layer has a thickness amounting to at least 45 percent of the overall thickness of the top layer.
3. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the back layer comprises filler materials.
4. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein a backing layer is provided on the lower side of the floor panel, wherein the backing layer has a lower density than the back layer of the top layer.
5. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the transparent wear layer has a thickness corresponding to at least 25 percent of the overall thickness of the top layer.
6. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the top layer further includes a surface layer on the basis of a UV hardened substance.
7. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the mechanical coupling means includes locking parts resulting in the horizontal locking; and
wherein two pairs of horizontally active locking surfaces are formed between the respective edges; one pair of the horizontally active locking surfaces being formed from the material of the substrate and extending at an angle between 30 and 90 degrees with the surface of the floor panel; a second pair of the horizontally active locking surfaces being formed exclusively from the material of the top layer and extending substantially vertical.
8. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the mechanical coupling means includes locking parts resulting in the vertical locking; and
wherein two pairs of vertically active locking surfaces are formed between the respective edges; both pairs of vertically active locking surfaces being formed exclusively from the material of the substrate.
9. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the one pair of opposite edges is a pair of long edges;
wherein the mechanical coupling means is a tongue and a groove;
wherein the groove is flanked by an upper lip and a lower lip, the lower lip extending in a horizontal direction beyond the upper lip; and
wherein the mechanical coupling means allows a coupling by means of a turning movement along the long edges.
10. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the synthetic material board comprises at least one of wood fiber and chalk as a filler material.
11. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the synthetic material board comprises closed-cell foam.
12. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the substrate has an average density of more than 500 kilograms per cubic meter.
13. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the floor panel is rigid and cannot be wound up.
14. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein a material of the synthetic material board has a local density on one or both flat sides which is higher than the material in a central layer of the synthetic material board.
15. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein a layer of glue is provided between the back layer and the synthetic material board.
16. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the back layer has a higher density than the transparent wear layer.
17. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the back layer is the thickest layer of the top layer.
18. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the extruded synthetic material board is based on polyvinylchloride.
19. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the extruded synthetic material board is based on a thermoplastic material different from a vinyl compound.
20. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the transparent layer has a thickness between 0.25 and 0.7 millimeters.
