Abstract

A system, method, and computer program product are provided for deploying a disk image in a communication network, based on network topology. In use, a disk image to be distributed in association with a communication network is identified, the communication network including a plurality of datacenters. Additionally, one or more of the plurality of datacenters in which to distribute the disk image are identified, based on one or more network topology characteristics associated with the communication network. Further, the disk image is distributed to the identified one or more of the plurality of datacenters. Still yet, a list indicating all of the plurality of datacenters that contain the disk image is sent to the plurality of datacenters.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the predefined criteria includes whether the disk image is part of a service that is comprised of additional disk images in order to give disk images that are part of a service a common placement since they are likely to be instantiated together.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein each datacenter of the determined one or more of the plurality of datacenters further:

have a predefined level of network connectivity to datacenters that are less likely to instantiate the disk image.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein automatically determining, by the image distribution software executing on the computer system, one or more of the plurality of datacenters to which to distribute the disk image is further based on a type of the virtual service in which the disk image is included, the type of the virtual service being one of a firewall and a virtual private network (VPN).

12. A computer program product embodied on a non-transitory computer readable medium, comprising:

computer code for identifying, by a computer system executing image distribution software within a network function virtualization (NFV)-based network, a disk image to be distributed within the NFV-based network, the NFV-based network including a plurality of datacenters and the disk image being a portion of a virtual service that also includes additional disk images;
