Abstract

Various implementations described herein are directed to a non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions which, when executed by a computer, may cause the computer to receive a record describing operations of a marine electronics device. The computer may analyze the record to determine a setting to be modified on the marine electronics device. The computer may also transmit a message to the marine electronics device. The message instructions the marine electronics device to modify the setting.

Claims (34)

1 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon a plurality of computer-executable instructions which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to:

receive a record describing operations of a marine electronics device;

analyze the record to determine a setting to be modified on the marine electronics device; and

transmit a message to the marine electronics device, wherein the message instructs the marine electronics device to modify the setting.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the computer-executable instructions that cause the computer analyze the record to determine a setting to be modified on the marine electronics device comprise computer-executable instructions that cause the computer to compare the record to a desired operating condition.

3 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the record comprises a log of errors or crashes that occurred while the marine electronics device was operating.

4 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the record is received at a cloud server.

5 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the record describes system performance of the marine electronics device.

6 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the computer-executable instructions further cause the computer to transmit a message to the marine electronics device to perform a diagnostic, run a test, or verify a problem.

7 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon a plurality of computer-executable instructions which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to:

receive data describing one or more operating conditions of a peripheral device on a marine vessel;

analyze the received data to determine at least one setting to be modified on the peripheral device; and

transmit a message to the peripheral device corresponding to the setting modification.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the peripheral device is a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver, a radar system, a sonar system, a propulsion system, a navigation system, a lighting system, a wireless data communication device, a wireless audio communication device, an audio or video entertainment device, or a weather or environmental sensor system.

9 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the received data comprise telematics data obtained from sensors or marine instruments.

10 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the received data corresponds to a switch position, a switch activation system, an electric power generation and supply system, a water management system, a lighting system, or a security system.

11 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the received data describes an error, fault, or problem that has occurred in the peripheral device.

12 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the received data further comprises navigational or environmental conditions around the marine vessel.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the computer-executable instructions that cause the computer to transmit a message to the peripheral device corresponding to the setting modification comprise computer-executable instructions that cause the computer to transmit the message in a National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) 2000 compatible format.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the computer-executable instructions that cause the computer to analyze the received data to determine at least one setting to be modified on the peripheral device comprise computer-executable instructions that cause the computer to compare the received data to a desired operating condition.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the computer-executable instructions that cause the computer to analyze the received data to determine at least one setting to be modified on the peripheral device comprise computer-executable instructions that cause the computer to:

transmit the received data to a third party corresponding to the peripheral device; and

receive at least one setting to be modified on the peripheral device from the third party.

16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the third party is a manufacturer of the peripheral device.

17 . An apparatus for displaying marine electronic data, comprising:

one or more processors;

a screen configured to display marine data; and

memory having a plurality of executable instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

transmit data to a server, wherein the data describes operating conditions of the apparatus or a peripheral device connected to the apparatus;

receive a message from the server that instructs the apparatus to modify a setting of the apparatus or of the peripheral device; and

perform a modification corresponding to the message.

18 . The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the executable instructions that cause the processor to perform a modification corresponding to the message comprise executable instructions that cause the processor to transmit an instruction corresponding to the modification to the peripheral device.

19 . The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the data transmitted to the server comprises a log of errors, crashes, faults, or problems that occurred while the marine electronics device or the peripheral device was operating.

20 . The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the executable instructions further cause the one or more processors to receive data from the peripheral device.
