Abstract

Devices and methods for contactless skin treatment use feedback power control for non-invasive treatment of skin and human tissue. Electromagnetic energy heats skin or tissue. A feedback system measures an output physical quantity before the output of electromagnetic waves from the device into the patient. Alternatively the feedback system scans values of a physical quantity on or near the patient. The devices and methods allow for delivering the optimum amount of energy to the patient while reducing the thermal load of the device.

Claims (41)

1. A non-invasive medical device for subcutaneous treatment of adipose tissue, comprising:

a power supply electrically connected to a high frequency generator and transmission cables leading to at least two capacitive electrodes;

an electromagnet or a permanent magnet for exposing the patient to a supplemental magnetic field;

each transmission cable has an outer cylindrical conductor and an internal conductor and a space between the conductors filled with a dielectric;

wherein the transmission cables are arranged to provide a symmetrical signal to each of the at least two capacitive electrodes for controlled heating of the adipose tissue by symmetrical power, while measuring values of at least one physical quantity between the cables; and

wherein power to at the least two electrodes is adjusted based on the measured values.

2. The device of claim 1 further comprising a mechanical fixture which keeps the electrodes in a fixed position during at least part of treatment process.

3. The device of claim 2 further comprising a microprocessor control unit in communication with a sensor, wherein the microprocessor control unit evaluates the measured values from the sensor and regulates power.

4. The device of claim 3 further including a cooling element for cooling the patient's skin.

5. The device of claim 4 wherein skin surface temperature during treatment is maintained between 32° C.-45° C.

6. The device of claim 3 wherein the value of the at least one physical quantity from the sensor is transmitted as optical information.

7. The device of claim 6 where the control unit calculates output power of the electrodes.

8. The device of claim 1 with each of the capacitive electrodes having a surface area of at least 15 cm2.

9. The device of claim 8 further including a transmatch electrically connected to the high frequency generator.

10. A non-invasive medical device for subcutaneous treatment, comprising:

a power supply electrically connected to a high frequency generator, a transmatch and transmission cables leading to each of at least two capacitive electrodes;

each capacitive electrode having a surface area of at least 100 cm 2 ;

wherein each transmission cable has an outer cylindrical conductor and an internal conductor and a space between the conductors is filled with a dielectric;

wherein the transmission cables are arranged to provide a symmetrical signal to each of the at least two capacitive electrodes for controlled heating of the adipose tissue by symmetrical power;

an air mover for moving air between the electrodes and the skin by vacuum;

a sensor in communication with a control unit for measuring values of at least one physical quantity;

an electromagnet or a permanent magnet for exposing the patient to a supplemental magnetic field;

wherein power to each of the at least two capacitive electrodes is adjusted based on the measured values; and

wherein input power is gradually increased while measuring of the values of the at least one physical quantity and the output power is decreased in case of exceeding a threshold value, to allow the output power to fluctuate during the treatment, without causing any harm to the upper layer of the skin.

11. The device of claim 10 further comprising a mechanical fixture which keeps the electrodes in fixed position during at least part of treatment process.

12. The device of claim 11 with the electrodes remaining in a fixed position for at least 10 seconds.

13. The device of claim 10 wherein the capacitive electrodes are separated from the skin of the patient by a spacer.

14. The device of claim 10 further comprising a cooling element for cooling of the patient's skin.

15. The device of claim 10 wherein skin surface temperature during treatment is maintained between 32° C.-45° C.

16. The device of claim 10 wherein the value of the at least one physical quantity from the sensor is transmitted as optical information.

17. The device of claim 10 where the control unit calculates output power of the electrodes.

18. The device of claim 10 wherein at least one of the capacitive electrodes is a flexible electrode which can conform to a shape of the patient.

19. A non-invasive medical device for subcutaneous treatment of adipose tissue, comprising:

a power supply electrically connected to a high frequency generator, a transmatch and transmission cables leading to at least two capacitive electrodes;

each of the capacitive electrodes having a surface area of at least 15 cm 2 ;

each transmission cable has an outer cylindrical conductor and internal conductor and a space between the conductors filled with a dielectric;

wherein the transmission cables are arranged to provide a symmetrical signal to each of the at least two capacitive electrodes for controlled heating of the adipose tissue; and

an electromagnet or a permanent magnet for exposing the patient to a supplemental magnetic field.

20. The device of claim 19 further comprising a mechanical fixture which keeps the electrodes in fixed position during at least part of treatment process.

21. The device of claim 19 with the electrodes remaining in a stationary position for at least 10 seconds.

22. The device of claim 19 wherein skin surface temperature during treatment is maintained between 32° C.-45° C.
