Abstract

Compositions comprising oxidized poly alpha-1,3-glucan compounds are disclosed herein. Oxidized poly alpha-1,3-glucan compounds are produced by contacting poly alpha-1,3-glucan under aqueous conditions with at least one N-oxoammonium salt.

Claims (20)

1. A method of producing a fabric comprising an oxidized poly alpha-1,3-glucan compound, said method comprising:

contacting the fabric with an aqueous composition comprising an oxidized poly alpha-1,3-glucan compound produced by contacting poly alpha-1,3-glucan having at least 90% alpha-1,3 glycosidic linkages under aqueous conditions with at least one agent that is capable of oxidizing the poly alpha-1,3-glucan, whereby the oxidized poly alpha-1,3-glucan compound adsorbs to the fabric.

2. A fabric according to claim 1 comprising an oxidized poly alpha-1,3-glucan compound, wherein said compound is produced by contacting poly alpha-1,3-glucan having at least 90% alpha-1,3 glycosidic linkages under aqueous conditions with at least one agent that is capable of oxidizing the poly alpha-1,3-glucan.

3. The fabric of claim 2 , wherein the poly alpha-1,3-glucan has at least 95% alpha-1,3 glycosidic linkages.

4. The fabric of claim 2 , wherein the poly alpha-1,3-glucan has a weight-average molecular weight of at least 1000.

5. The fabric of claim 2 , wherein the poly alpha-1,3-glucan has a weight-average molecular weight of at least 5000.

6. The fabric of claim 2 , wherein the oxidized poly alpha-1,3-glucan compound is adsorbed to the fabric.

7. The fabric of claim 2 , wherein the oxidized poly alpha-1,3-glucan compound is crosslinked.

8. The fabric of claim 2 , wherein the fabric comprises a natural fiber.

9. The fabric of claim 8 , wherein the natural fiber comprises a cellulosic fiber.

10. The fabric of claim 9 , wherein the cellulosic fiber is cotton.

11. The fabric of claim 2 , wherein the fabric comprises a synthetic fiber.

12. The fabric of claim 11 , wherein the synthetic fiber comprises polyester.

13. The fabric of claim 2 , wherein the fabric comprises a semi-synthetic fiber, optionally wherein the semi-synthetic fiber comprises rayon.

14. The fabric of claim 2 , wherein the fabric comprises a combination of a natural fiber and a synthetic fiber.

15. The fabric of claim 14 , wherein the fabric comprises a cellulosic fiber and polyester.

16. The fabric of claim 2 , wherein said agent comprises an N-oxoammonium salt.

17. The fabric of claim 16 , wherein the N-oxoammonium salt comprises a TEMPO oxoammonium salt.

18. The fabric of claim 17 , wherein the N-oxoammonium salt comprises a 4-acetamido-TEMPO oxoammonium salt.

19. The fabric of claim 2 , wherein said agent comprises a periodate.
