Abstract

An improved method and an apparatus for reporting Power Headroom (PH) of a UE are provided. The Power Headroom Report (PHR) method of the present invention includes determining whether to trigger PHR based on a change of Power Management Maximum Power Reduction (P-MPR) between two time points, generating, if PHR is determined to be triggered, Power Headroom, and reporting the Power Headroom information to a base station.

Claims (34)

1. A method by a terminal in a mobile communication system, the method comprising:

determining that a power headroom report (PHR) is triggered;

identifying whether an extended PHR is configured; and

generating an extended power headroom (PH) medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) including a first field and a second field if the extended PHR is configured,

wherein the first field indicates whether power backoff is applied due to power management and the second field indicates whether a PH value is based on a real transmission, and

wherein the first field corresponds to a first bit of an octet including the PH in the extended PHR MAC CE.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first field is set to 1 if the power backoff is applied due to the power management.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second field is set to 0 if the PH value is based on the real transmission.

4. A method by a base station in a mobile communication system, the method comprising:

transmitting configuration information configuring an extended power headroom (PH) medium access control (MAC) control element (CE), to a terminal; and

receiving the extended PH MAC CE including a first field and a second field, from the terminal,

wherein the first field indicates whether power backoff is applied due to power management and the second field indicates whether a PH value is based on a real transmission, and

wherein the first field corresponds to a first bit of an octet including the PH in the extended PHR MAC CE.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the first field is set to 1 if the power backoff is applied due to the power management.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein the second field is set to 0 if the PH value is based on the real transmission.

7. A terminal in a mobile communication system, the terminal comprising:

a transceiver configured to transmit and receive a signal; and

a controller configured:

to determine that a power headroom report (PHR) is triggered,

to identify whether an extended PHR is configured, and

to generate an extended power headroom (PH) medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) including a first field and a second field if the extended PHR is configured,

wherein the first field indicates whether power backoff is applied due to power management and the second field indicates whether a PH value is based on a real transmission, and

wherein the first field corresponds to a first bit of an octet including the PH in the extended PHR MAC CE.

8. The terminal of claim 7 , wherein the first field is set to 1 if the power backoff is applied due to the power management.

9. The terminal of claim 7 , wherein the second field is set to 0 if the PH value is based on the real transmission.

10. A base station in a mobile communication system, the base station comprising:

a transceiver configured to transmit and receive a signal; and

a controller configured:

to transmit configuration information configuring an extended power headroom (PH) medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) to a terminal, and

to receive the extended PH MAC CE including a first field and a second field from the terminal,

wherein the first field indicates whether power backoff is applied due to power management and the second field indicates whether a PH value is based on a real transmission, and

wherein the first field corresponds to a first bit of an octet including the PH in the extended PHR MAC CE.

11. The base station of claim 10 , wherein the first field is set to 1 if the power backoff is applied due to the power management.

12. The base station of claim 10 , wherein the second field is set to 0 if the PH value is based on the real transmission.
