Abstract

A hydrogen leakage detector includes a sensor and a microcontroller. The sensor is sensitive to a concentration of hydrogen in air. A sensitive unit of the sensor is exposed directly to an in situ concentration of the hydrogen. The microcontroller is programmed to generate and output an analog signal corresponding to concentration information, based on a concentration measurement from the sensor, and to generate and output an analog signal indicating a correct operation of the detector.

Claims (17)

1. A hydrogen leakage detector, comprising:

a sensor sensitive to a concentration of hydrogen in an environment, the sensor including a sensitive portion exposed directly to an in situ concentration of hydrogen in the environment, the sensor being structured to output information corresponding to a concentration measurement; and

a microcontroller programmed to generate and output: a first analog signal corresponding to concentration information, based on the concentration measurement, and a second analog signal corresponding to a status of the detector,

wherein, during operation of the detector, the first analog signal and the second analog signal are emitted from a single output such that: (a) during normal operation of the detector the first analog signal corresponding to the concentration information has a value in a first range of non-zero values, (b) during normal operation of the detector the second analog signal corresponding to the status of the detector has a value in a second range of non-zero values, indicating a correct operation of the detector, and (c) during abnormal operation of the detector the second analog signal corresponding to the status of the detector has a value in a third range of values or in a fourth range of values, the first through fourth ranges being different from one another.

2. The detector according to claim 1 , wherein the second analog signal corresponding to the status of the detector indicates a correct operation of the detector.

3. The detector according to claim 2 , wherein the second analog signal indicating a correct operation of the detector is a normally high signal.

4. The detector according to claim 3 , wherein the normally high signal is emitted at regular intervals from an analog output portion of the microcontroller.

5. The detector according to claim 2 , wherein the second analog signal indicating a correct operation of the detector is a periodic signal of a square wave type.

6. The detector according to claim 5 , wherein the periodic signal has nonzero lower and upper values.

7. The detector according to claim 1 , wherein the microcontroller is programmed to verify one or both of: an integrity of the sensor, and an integrity of one or more components of the microcontroller.

8. The detector according to claim 1 , wherein the microcontroller is programmed to verify a consistency of the concentration measurement with the first analog signal corresponding to the concentration information.

9. The detector according to claim 1 , wherein the microcontroller includes a single analog output portion.

10. A device comprising:

a sensor sensitive to a concentration of hydrogen in an environment; and

a microcontroller comprising an analog output that outputs an analog signal, wherein the microcontroller is configured such that: (a) in a case where the microcontroller determines that a malfunction state related to the device does not exist and that a hydrogen concentration, determined in accordance with an output of the sensor, is zero, then the analog signal falls within a first range of non-zero voltages, (b) in a case where the microcontroller determines that a malfunction state related to the device does not exist and that a hydrogen concentration, determined in accordance with an output of the sensor, is non-zero, then the analog signal falls within a second range of non-zero voltages different from the first range and varies in accordance with the hydrogen concentration, and (c) in a case where the microcontroller determines that a malfunction state related to the device exists, then the analog signal has a voltage outside of the first range and the second range.

11. The device according to claim 10 , wherein in the case where the microcontroller determines that a malfunction state related to the device exists, then the analog signal has a voltage falling within a third range that extends from greater than or equal to zero and less than a predetermined non-zero voltage.

12. The device according to claim 10 , wherein in the case where the microcontroller determines that a malfunction state related to the device exists, then the analog signal has a voltage falling within a third range the voltages of which are greater than those of the first range and the second range.
