Abstract

A display device is provided. The display device includes a pixel-displaying region, including: at least two pixels including a plurality of sub-pixels; and a light-shielding layer including a matrix portion and an enlarged portion, wherein the enlarged portion is disposed at an intersection of two of the adjacent sub-pixels and is adjacent to the matrix portion; wherein the matrix portion defines the sub-pixels, and a total area of the sub-pixels is defined as a first area and a ratio of an area of the enlarged portion to the first area is about 1.5% to 6%.

Claims (42)

1. A display device, comprising:

a pixel-displaying region, comprising:

at least two pixels comprising a plurality of sub-pixels; and

a light-shielding layer comprising a matrix portion and an enlarged portion, wherein the enlarged portion is disposed at an intersection of two of the adjacent sub-pixels and is adjacent to the matrix portion;

wherein the matrix portion defines the sub-pixels, and a total area of the sub-pixels is defined as a first area and a ratio of an area of the enlarged portion to the first area is about 1.5% to 6%, wherein each pixel comprises three sub-pixels, and the light-shielding layer comprises a plurality of the enlarged portions, wherein a ratio of an amount of the enlarged portions to an amount of the sub-pixels is 1:18, and a sub-pixel region which consists of 108 of the sub-pixels has 18 sub-pixel columns and 6 sub-pixel rows, wherein the enlarged portion is disposed between two of the sub-pixel columns and is disposed between two of the sub-pixel rows.

2. The display device as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising:

a first substrate;

a second substrate disposed opposite to the first substrate;

a main spacer disposed over the first substrate, wherein the main spacer is disposed corresponding to the enlarged portion,

wherein the main spacer comprises a bottom surface adjacent to the first substrate, and a distance between an edge of a projection of the bottom surface of the main spacer on the first substrate to an edge of the enlarged portion ranges from about 5 μm to 15 μm.

3. The display device as claimed in claim 2 , further comprising:

a sub-spacer disposed over the first substrate, wherein the sub-spacer is disposed corresponding to a sub-enlarged portion, wherein the sub-enlarged portion is disposed at an intersection of two of the adjacent sub-pixels,

wherein the sub-spacer comprises a bottom surface adjacent to the first substrate, and a distance between an edge of the bottom surface of the sub-spacer to an edge of the sub-enlarged portion ranges from about 5 μm to 10 μm.

4. The display device as claimed in claim 3 , wherein

the sub-spacer has a first side and a second side opposite to the first side,

wherein the distance between the edge of the bottom surface of the sub-spacer to the edge of the sub-enlarged portion at the first side ranges from about 5 μm to 8 μm,

and the distance between the edge of the bottom surface of the sub-spacer to the edge of the sub-enlarged portion at the second side ranges from about 5 μm to 10 μm.

5. The display device as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising:

a sub-spacer disposed over the first substrate and disposed in the pixel-displaying region, wherein a region corresponding to the sub-spacer does not comprise the enlarged portion.

6. The display device as claimed in claim 5 , further comprising:

a first alignment layer disposed over the first substrate; and

a second alignment layer disposed over the second substrate,

wherein the first alignment layer is aligned by a photo-alignment process.

7. The display device as claimed in claim 2 , further comprising:

a first alignment layer disposed over the first substrate; and

a second alignment layer disposed over the second substrate,

wherein the second alignment layer comprises a rough region corresponding to the main spacer.

8. The display device as claimed in claim 7 , wherein a distance between a top surface of the main spacer to an edge of the rough region ranges from about 0 μm to 12 μm.

9. The display device as claimed in claim 7 , wherein a roughness of the rough region of the second alignment layer is different from a roughness of other region of the second alignment layer.

10. The display device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein in the sub-pixel region, the amount of the enlarged portion between two of the adjacent sub-pixel columns is one or less, and the amount of the enlarged portion between two of the adjacent sub-pixel rows is one or less.

11. The display device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein one of the enlarged portions is spaced apart from another most adjacent enlarged portion by three sub-pixel columns.

12. The display device as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising at least one main spacer, wherein all region corresponding to the at least one main spacer has the enlarged portion.

13. The display device as claimed in claim 12 , further comprising at least one sub-spacer, wherein a region corresponding to the at least one sub-spacer has the enlarged portion.

14. The display device as claimed in claim 12 , wherein a portion of the region corresponding to the enlarged portions does not have the main spacer and the sub-spacer.

15. The display device as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of sub-spacers, wherein each pixel comprises three sub-pixels, and a ratio of an amount of the plurality of the sub-spacers to an amount of the sub-pixels is 1:3.

16. The display device as claimed in claim 15 , wherein one of the sub-spacers is spaced apart from another most adjacent sub-spacer by three sub-pixel columns.

17. The display device as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the first substrate is a color filter substrate, and the second substrate is a thin film transistor substrate.

18. A display device, comprising:

a pixel-displaying region, comprising:

at least two pixels comprising a plurality of sub-pixels; and

a light-shielding layer comprising a matrix portion and an enlarged portion, wherein the enlarged portion is disposed at an intersection of two of the adjacent sub-pixels and is adjacent to the matrix portion;
