Abstract

A method for writing a mode register in a semiconductor device, the method includes receiving a mode register command and a mode signal; generating a first mode register setting signal; delaying the first mode register setting signal in a first latency shifter to provide a second mode register setting signal; receiving a data signal in synchronization with the second mode register setting signal; and writing the mode signal to the mode register only if the received data signal has a first logic level.

Claims (19)

1. A semiconductor device comprising:

a command decoder configured to activate a first mode register setting signal;

a mode register configured to store a mode signal;

an input receiving an enable signal indicating one of a first operation mode and a second operation mode;

a first circuit configured to, when the enable signal indicates the first operation mode, supply the first mode register setting signal to a latency shifter and, when the enable signal indicates the second operation mode, bypass the latency shifter and supply the first mode register setting signal to the mode register, wherein the latency shifter is configured to activate a second mode register setting signal after a predetermined from the activation of the first mode register setting signal;

a second circuit configured to supply the second mode register setting signal to the mode register when the enable signal indicates the first operation mode.

2. The semiconductor device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein a PDA function is enabled in the first operation mode and wherein the PDA function is disabled in the second operation mode.

3. The semiconductor device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the predetermined time is a predetermined number of cycles of a clock signal received by the semiconductor device.

4. The semiconductor device as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of address terminals supplied with the mode signal.

5. The semiconductor device as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising a clock terminal that receives the clock signal from outside the semiconductor device.

6. The semiconductor device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the command decoder activates the first mode in response to a mode register setting command issued from outside the semiconductor device.

7. The semiconductor device as claimed in claim 6 , further comprising a plurality of command terminals supplied with a command signal comprising a plurality of bits, the mode register setting command being indicated by a particular logic combination of the bits.

8. The semiconductor device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the first circuit is coupled between the command decoder and the latency shifter.

9. The semiconductor device as claimed in claim 8 , wherein the first circuit comprises:

a first logic gate receiving as inputs the first mode register setting signal and the enable signal, wherein the first logic gate passes the first mode register setting signal when the enable signal has a high logic level; and

a second logic gate receiving as inputs the first mode register setting signal and the inverse of the enable signal, wherein the second logic gate passes the first mode register setting signal when the enable signal has a low logic level.

10. The semiconductor device as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the first logic gate has an output coupled to the latency shifter and wherein the second logic gate has an output not coupled to the latency shifter.

11. The semiconductor device as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the second logic gate has an output coupled to the second circuit.

12. The semiconductor device as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the second circuit is configured to supply the first mode register setting signal to the mode register when the enable signal indicates the second operation mode.
