USER BASED LICENSING FOR APPLICATIONS
A method, system, and computer-readable storage media for providing user based licensing of an application are provided herein. The method includes receiving user log-in information from a computing device at a licensing service in response to an input by a user and providing a license for an application to the computing device, wherein the license includes device specific information associated with the user. The method also includes activating the application on the computing device using the device specific information.

21 . A method for providing authorized access to an application, comprising:
receiving log-in information from a first computing device an authenticating service in response to an input by a first user;
providing a license for the application from the authenticating service to a second computing device to activate the application, wherein the license comprises device specific information to allow use of the application by a second user different from the first user;
modifying a license state at the authenticating service in response to input from the first computing device operated by the first user;
providing, to the second computing device, the modified license state that is to adjust a function of the application in response to a license state check performed at a configurable time period as specified by the license.
22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the license is managed by the first user, the managed license to be assigned by the first user to a computing device.
23 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the license is to permit additional use of an application after the license state check indicates the license for the application is no longer active.
24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the authenticating service returns a response to a license state check that is to indicate a valid license only for a number of times the application is used.
25 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the license provided to the second computing device performs a license state check asynchronously from a core system of the second computing device.
26 . The method of claim 21 , comprising allowing the second user to use the application on the second computing device for a specified period of time without connecting the second computing device to the authenticating service.
27 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the license is associated with the second user.
28 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the license is to synchronize the license state of the application on a device connected to the second computing device.
29 . A system for providing user-based licensing of an application, comprising:
a server communicatively coupled to a server computing device, the server comprising a processing device to carry out operations of a licensing service configured to:
receive log-in information from a first computing device at a licensing service in response to an input by a first user;
provide a license for the application from the licensing service to a second computing device to activate the application, wherein the license comprises device specific information to allow use of the application by a second user different from the first user;
modify a license state at the licensing service in response to input from the first computing device operated by the first user;
provide, to the second computing device, the modified license state that is to adjust a function of the application in response to a license state check performed at a configurable time period as specified by the license.
30 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the license is managed by the second user, the managed license to be assigned by the first user to a computing device.
31 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the licensing service returns a response to a license state check that is to indicate a valid license only for a number of times the application is used.
32 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the license provided to the second computing device performs a license state check asynchronously a core system of the second computing device.
33 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the license is to permit additional use of an application after the license state check indicates the license for the application is no longer active.
34 . A method for providing user based licensing of an application, comprising:
receiving user log-in information from a first computing device at a licensing service in response to an input by a user;
providing a license to activate an application to the computing device, wherein the license comprises device specific information associated with the user;
receiving user log-in information from a second computing device at a licensing service in response to an input by the user;
providing the license for an application to the second computing device;
providing a revocation of the license for the application on the first computing device causing the application to deactivate; and
providing an activation of the application on the second computing device using the device specific information.
35 . The method of claim 34 , wherein the license is associated with the user.
36 . The method of claim 34 , wherein the license is managed from the second computing device, the license to be assigned from the second computing device to an additional user.
37 . The method of claim 34 , wherein the license is to permits additional use of an application after a license state check indicates the license for the application is no longer active.
38 . The method of claim 34 , wherein the licensing service returns a response to a license state check that is to indicate a valid license only for a number of times the application is used.
39 . The method of claim 34 , wherein the license provided to the second computing device performs a license state check asynchronously from a core system of the second computing device.
40 . The method of claim 34 , comprising allowing the second computing device to use the application for a specified period of time without connecting the second computing device to the licensing service.
