USER BASED LICENSING FOR APPLICATIONS
A method, system, and computer-readable storage media for providing user based licensing of an application are provided herein. The method includes receiving user log-in information from a computing device at a licensing service in response to an input by a user and providing a license for an application to the computing device, wherein the license includes device specific information associated with the user. The method also includes activating the application on the computing device using the device specific information.
1 - 20 . (canceled)
21 . A method for providing licensing of an application, comprising:
receiving, at a licensing service, status change information from a service partner;
providing a license update for an application to the service partner, wherein the license update comprises device specific information that is to adjust an activation state of the application; and
periodically pushing license updates to the service partner if no status change information is received within a customizable time period.
22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the license update for the application is to request status updates from the licensing service at configurable times.
23 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the licensing service returns a response to a licensing state check that is to indicate a valid license only for a number of times the application is used.
24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the license update provided to the computing device performs a licensing state check asynchronously from a core system of the computing device.
25 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the licensing service returns a response to a licensing state request that distinguishes status change information between multiple connected devices.
26 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the license update for the application deactivates the application based on a total time of use of the application, a time since last renewal of a license, a time since connection to the licensing service, or any combination thereof.
27 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the license update permits additional use of the application after a license state check indicates a license for the application is no longer active.
28 . A system for providing user based licensing of an application, comprising:
a server communicatively coupled to a computing device, the server comprising a processing device to carry out operations of a licensing service configured to:
receive, at the licensing service, status change information from a service partner;
provide a license update for the application to the service partner, wherein the license update comprises device specific information that is to adjust the activation state of the application; and
push license updates periodically to the service partner if no status change information is received within a customizable time period.
29 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the license update for the application is to request a status update from the licensing service at a configurable time.
30 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the licensing service returns a response to a licensing state check that is to indicate a valid license only for a number of times the application is used.
31 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the license provided to the computing device performs a licensing state check asynchronously from a core system of the computing device.
32 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the licensing service returns a response to a licensing state request that distinguishes status change information between multiple connected devices.
33 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the licensing service returns a response to a licensing state request that distinguishes status change information between multiple connected devices.
34 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the license update for the application deactivates based on a total time of use of the application, a time since last renewal of a license, a time since connection to the licensing service, or any combination thereof.
35 . A computer-readable storage device comprising a plurality of instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:
receive, at the licensing service, status change information from a service partner;
provide a license update for the application to the service partner, wherein the license update comprises device specific information that is to adjust the activation state of the application; and
push license updates periodically to the service partner if no status change information is received within a customizable time period.
36 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 35 , wherein the licensing service returns a response to a licensing state check that is to indicate a valid license only for a number of times the application is used.
37 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 35 , wherein the license provided to the computing device performs a licensing state check asynchronously from a core system of the computing device.
38 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 35 , wherein the license update for the application deactivates based on a total time of use of the application, a time since last renewal of a license, a time since connection to the licensing service, or any combination thereof.
39 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 35 , wherein the licensing service returns a response to a licensing state request that distinguishes status change information between multiple connected devices.
40 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 35 , wherein the license update for the application is to request status updates from the licensing service at a configurable time.
