USER BASED LICENSING FOR APPLICATIONS
A method, system, and computer-readable storage media for providing user based licensing of an application are provided herein. The method includes receiving user log-in information from a computing device at a licensing service in response to an input by a user and providing a license for an application to the computing device, wherein the license includes device specific information associated with the user. The method also includes activating the application on the computing device using the device specific information.

21 . A method for managing application access, comprising:
receiving, at a licensing service, license information for a deprovisioned license;
indexing the license information for the deprovisioned license in an index;
receiving, at the licensing service, a license state check from a service partner;
comparing the license state check to the index; and
returning to the service partner the results of the comparison, the results comprising information that a deprovisioned license corresponds to the license state check or that no corresponding deprovisioned license was found.
22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the licensing service returns a response to a license state check that is to indicate a valid license only for a number of times the application is used.
23 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the license provided to the computing device performs a license state check asynchronously from a core system of the computing device.
24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the results of the comparison that are returned to the service partner comprise information to allow additional use of an application after the comparison of the license state check indicates a license for the application is deprovisioned.
25 . The method of claim 21 , comprising returning to the service partner an additional response to a license state check that is to inform of impending deactivation, the time until impending deactivation, or any combination thereof.
26 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the returning to the service partner the results of the comparison comprises an indication that an application from which a license state check was received may continue to operate as though the license was not deprovisioned during times when the service partner is disconnected from the licensing service.
27 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the returning to the service partner the results of the comparison include results that is to synchronize with a connected device of the service partner if a deprovisioned license corresponding to the license state check is found.
28 . A system for managing application access, comprising:
a server communicatively coupled to a computing device, the server comprising a processing device to carry out operations of a licensing service configured to:
receive at the licensing service license information for a deprovisioned license;
index the license information for the deprovisioned license in an index;
receive, at the licensing service, a license state check from a service partner;
compare the license state check to the index; and
return to the service partner the results of the comparison, the results comprising information that a deprovisioned license corresponds to the license state check or that no corresponding deprovisioned license was found.
29 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the licensing service returns a response to a license state check that is to indicate a valid license only for a number of times the application is used.
30 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the license provided to the computing device performs a license state check asynchronously from a core system of the computing device.
31 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the results of the comparison that are returned to the service partner comprise information to allow additional use of an application after the comparison of the license state check indicates a license for the application is deprovisioned.
32 . The system of claim 28 , comprising returning to the service partner an additional response to a license state check that is to inform of impending deactivation, the time until impending deactivation, or any combination thereof.
33 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the returning to the service partner the results of the comparison comprises an indication that an application from which a license state check was received may continue to operate as though the license was not deprovisioned during times when the service partner is disconnected from the licensing service.
34 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the returning to the service partner the results of the comparison include results to synchronize with a connected device of the service partner if a deprovisioned license corresponding to the license state check is found.
35 . A computer-readable storage device comprising a plurality of instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:
receive at the licensing service license information for a deprovisioned license;
index the license information for the deprovisioned license in an index;
receive, at the licensing service, a license state check from a service partner;
compare the license state check to the index; and
return to the service partner the results of the comparison, the results comprising information that a deprovisioned license corresponds to the license state check or that no corresponding deprovisioned license was found.
36 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 35 , wherein the licensing service returns a response to a license state check that is to indicate a valid license only for a number of times the application is used.

The computer-readable storage device of claim 35 , wherein the results of the comparison that are returned to the service partner comprise information to allow additional use of an application after the comparison of the license state check indicates a license for the application is deprovisioned.
38 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 35 , comprising returning to the service partner an additional response to a license state check is to inform of impending deactivation, the time until impending deactivation, or any combination thereof.
39 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 35 , wherein the returning to the service partner the results of the comparison comprises an indication that an application from which a license state check was received may continue to operate as though the license was not deprovisioned during times when the service partner is disconnected from the licensing service.
40 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 35 , wherein the returning to the service partner the results of the comparison include results to synchronize with a connected device of the service partner if a deprovisioned license corresponding to the license state check is found.
