Abstract

A system and method for dynamically adjusting attributes for a network service is described. A computing system can determine a change that is to be implemented to an attribute of the network service. For each of a plurality of computing devices, the computing system can receive information associated with that computing device from a designated application operating on that computing device. The designated application is associated with the network service. The computing system automatically implements the change to at least one but not all of the plurality of computing devices based on the information received from each of the plurality of computing devices.

Claims (35)

1. A computing system comprising:

a memory to store a set of instructions;

one or more processors that use the set of instructions to:

determine a change that is to be implemented to an attribute of a network service, the attribute corresponding to a designated application that individual users can operate on respective computing devices to use the network service;

receive, from each of a plurality of computing devices, information associated with that computing device from the designated application operating on that computing device, the designated application being in communication with the computing system, wherein the information includes at least a current location of that computing device within a specified geographic region; and

based on the information received from each of the plurality of computing devices, automatically implement the change to each of a first set of designated applications operating on a first set of the plurality of computing devices but not implementing the change to a second set of designated applications operating on a second set of the plurality of computing devices,

wherein the one or more processors automatically implement the change by (i) determining a first graphic image associated with the attribute, (ii) causing each designated application operating on each of the first set of the plurality of computing devices to display the first graphic image on a user interface provided by that designated application, and (iii) causing each designated application operating on each of the second set of the plurality of computing devices to display a second graphic image that is different than the first graphic image on the user interface provided by that designated application, and

wherein the network service corresponds to a transport arrangement system.

2. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the computing system communicates, over one or more networks, with a feature provider system (i) periodically, (ii) in response to receiving a user input, or (iii) using a push protocol through a persistent connection.

The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors determine the change that is to be implemented to the attribute of the network service by accessing a configuration database, wherein the configuration database includes a plurality of configuration files that each corresponds to an attribute of the network service.

4. The computing system of claim 3 , wherein each of the plurality of configuration files is configurable by a user of the computer system.

The computing system of claim 3 , wherein the information received from each of the plurality of computing devices further includes at least one of (i) a device type of the respective computing device, (ii) a user identifier associated with the respective computing device, or (iii) a version information for the designated application operating on the respective computing device.

The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors determine the change that is to be implemented to the attribute of the network service by (i) communicating, over one or more networks, with a feature provider system that maintains a configuration database, wherein the configuration database includes a plurality of configuration files that each corresponds to an attribute of the network service, and (ii) identifying a configuration file that instructs the change to the attribute.

7. The computing system of claim 6 , wherein the configuration file specifies that the change to the attribute is to be implemented for those designated applications that are operating on computing devices that are within a specified geographic region.

The computing system of claim 6 , wherein the configuration file specifies that the change to the attribute is to be implemented for those designated applications that are operating on computing devices that are within the specified geographic region for a specified duration of time, and further comprising:

wherein after the specified duration of time, the one or more processors automatically implement a second change to each of the first set of designated applications operating on the first set of plurality of computing devices to cause the user interface provided by that designated application to revert back to a previous state before the change.

9. A method for dynamically adjusting attributes for a network service, the method being performed by one or more processors of a computing system and comprising:

determining, at the computing system, a change that is to be implemented to an attribute of the network service, the attribute corresponding to a designated application that individual users can operate on respective computing devices to use the network service;

receiving, from each of a plurality of computing devices, information associated with that computing device from the designated application operating on that computing device, the designated application being in communication with the computing system, wherein the information includes at least a current location of that computing device within a specified geographic region; and

based on the information received from each of the plurality of computing devices, automatically implementing the change to each of a first set of designated applications operating on a first set of the plurality of computing devices but not implementing the change to a second set of designated applications operating on a second set of the plurality of computing devices, wherein automatically implementing the change includes (i) determining a first graphic image associated with the attribute, and (ii) causing each designated application operating on each of the first set of the plurality of computing devices to display the first graphic image on a user interface provided by that designated application, and (iii) causing each designated application operating on each of the second set of the plurality of computing devices to display a second graphic image that is different than the first graphic image on the user interface provided by that designated application; and

wherein the network service corresponds to a transport arrangement system.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the computing system communicates, over one or more networks, with a feature provider system (i) periodically, (ii) in response to receiving a user input, or (iii) using a push protocol through a persistent connection.

The method of claim 9 , wherein determining the change that is to be implemented to the attribute of the network service includes accessing a configuration database, wherein the configuration database includes a plurality of configuration files that each corresponds to an attribute of the network service.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein each of the plurality of configuration files is configurable by a user of the computer system.

The method of claim 11 , wherein the information received from each of the plurality of computing devices further includes at least one of (i) a device type of the respective computing device, (ii) a user identifier associated with the respective computing device, or (iii) a version information for the designated application operating on the respective computing device.

The method of claim 9 , wherein determining the change that is to be implemented to the attribute of the network service includes (i) communicating, over one or more networks, with a feature provider system that maintains a configuration database, wherein the configuration database includes a plurality of configuration files that each corresponds to an attribute of the network service, and (ii) identifying a configuration file that instructs the change to the attribute.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the configuration file specifies that the change to the attribute is to be implemented for those designated applications that are operating on computing devices that are within the specified geographic region.

The method of claim 14 , wherein the configuration file specifies that the change to the attribute is to be implemented for those designated applications that are operating on computing devices that are within the specified geographic region for a specified duration of time, and further comprising:

after the specified duration of time, automatically implementing a second change to each of the first set of designated applications operating on the first set of plurality of computing devices to cause the user interface provided by that designated application to revert back to a previous state before the change.

17. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a computing system, cause the computing system to perform operations comprising:

determining, at the computing system, a change that is to be implemented to an attribute of a network service, the attribute corresponding to a designated application that individual users can operate on respective computing devices to use the network service;

receiving, from each of a plurality of computing devices, information associated with that computing device from the designated application operating on that computing device, the designated application being in communication with the computing system, wherein the information includes at least a current location of that computing device within a specified geographic region; and

based on the information received from each of the plurality of computing devices, automatically implementing the change to each of a first set of designated applications operating on a first set of the plurality of computing devices but not implementing the change to a second set of designated applications operating on a second set of the plurality of computing devices, wherein automatically implementing the change includes (i) determining a first graphic image associated with the attribute, and (ii) causing each designated application operating on each of the first set of the plurality of computing devices to display the first graphic image on a user interface provided by that designated application, and (iii) causing each designated application operating on each of the second set of the plurality of computing devices to display a second graphic image that is different than the first graphic image on the user interface provided by that designated application; and

wherein the network service corresponds to a transport arrangement system.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein determining the change that is to be implemented to the attribute of the network service includes accessing a plurality of configuration files that each corresponds to an attribute of the network service.
