Abstract

Embodiments of systems and methods for the aggregation, analysis, display and monetization of pricing data for commodities in general, and which may be particularly useful applied to vehicles are disclosed. Specifically, in certain embodiments, historical transaction data associated with a particular vehicle configuration may be obtained and processed to determine pricing data associated with the vehicle configuration. The historical transaction data or determined pricing data may then be presented in an intuitive manner.

Claims (47)

1. A system, comprising:

a data store storing predetermined models and historical transaction data from data sources;

a non-transitory computer readable memory storing a vehicle data application comprising a data gathering module, a processing module, and an interface module, the interface module comprising interfaces for interfacing the data sources over a network; and

a processor executing the data gathering module, the processing module, and the interface module to perform:

receiving a specified vehicle configuration over the Internet through a user interface of a website running on a client device;

based on the specified vehicle configuration, determining a pricing model from the predetermined models stored in the data store;

processing the historical transaction data to yield data sets corresponding to the specified vehicle configuration;

determining pricing data for the specified vehicle configuration by applying the pricing model to the data sets, wherein the pricing data includes a price and a price range for the specified vehicle configuration;

generating a visual presentation based on the pricing data determined for the specified vehicle configuration, wherein the price is positioned relative to the price range in the visual presentation; and

sending the visual presentation to the client device for displaying, through the user interface of the website running on the client device, the price relative to the price range for the specified vehicle configuration,

wherein the receiving and the sending occur substantially simultaneously.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the generating includes generating a plurality of interfaces for presentation of the pricing data determined for the specified vehicle configuration through a plurality of channels and wherein the sending including distributing the plurality of interfaces through the plurality of channels.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of channels comprises at least a consumer facing network based application, a web page for the website, a dealer facing network based application, a text or multimedia messaging service, a website widget, a mobile phone application widget, or a voice application accessible through a phone.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the website is a consumer facing website or a dealer facing website.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the visual presentation includes a visual indicator indicating a percentage of consumers paid a certain price for the specified vehicle configuration or a distribution of prices within the price range for the specified vehicle configuration.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the visual presentation includes at least a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price, a sticker price, an invoice price, an average paid price, a dealer cost price, a zip code, a geographical location, an incentive, a dealer offer, a time period, a bar chart, a histogram, a price curve, a price trend, or a pricing forecast.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the visual presentation includes at least an upfront price, a photo, or a description for a vehicle similar to the specified vehicle configuration.

8. A method, comprising:

storing predetermined models and historical transaction data from data sources in a data store;

storing a vehicle data application comprising a data gathering module, a processing module, and an interface module on a non-transitory computer readable memory, the interface module comprising interfaces for interfacing the data sources over a network; and executing the data gathering module, the processing module, and the interface module on a processor to perform:

receiving a specified vehicle configuration over the Internet through a user interface of a website running on a client device;

based on the specified vehicle configuration, determining a pricing model from the predetermined models stored in the data store;

processing the historical transaction data to yield data sets corresponding to the specified vehicle configuration;

determining pricing data for the specified vehicle configuration by applying the pricing model to the data sets, wherein the pricing data includes a price and a price range for the specified vehicle configuration;

generating a visual presentation based on the pricing data determined for the specified vehicle configuration, wherein the price is positioned relative to the price range in the visual presentation; and

sending the visual presentation to the client device for displaying, through the user interface of the website running on the client device, the price relative to the price range for the specified vehicle configuration,

wherein the receiving and the sending occur substantially simultaneously.

9. The method according to claim 8 , wherein the generating includes generating a plurality of interfaces for presentation of the pricing data determined for the specified vehicle configuration through a plurality of channels and wherein the sending including distributing the plurality of interfaces through the plurality of channels.

10. The method according to claim 9 , wherein the plurality of channels comprises at least a consumer facing network based application, a web page for the website, a dealer facing network based application, a text or multimedia messaging service, a website widget, a mobile phone application widget, or a voice application accessible through a phone.

11. The method according to claim 8 , wherein the website is a consumer facing website or a dealer facing website.

12. The method according to claim 8 , wherein the visual presentation includes a visual indicator indicating a percentage of consumers paid a certain price for the specified vehicle configuration or a distribution of prices within the price range for the specified vehicle configuration.

13. The method according to claim 8 , wherein the visual presentation includes at least a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price, a sticker price, an invoice price, an average paid price, a dealer cost price, a zip code, a geographical location, an incentive, a dealer offer, a time period, a bar chart, a histogram, a price curve, a price trend, or a pricing forecast.

14. The method according to claim 8 , wherein the visual presentation includes at least an upfront price, a photo, or a description for a vehicle similar to the specified vehicle configuration.

15. A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer readable medium storing a vehicle data application comprising a data gathering module, a processing module, and an interface module executable by a processor to perform:

receiving a specified vehicle configuration over the Internet through a user interface of a website running on a client device;

based on the specified vehicle configuration, determining a pricing model from predetermined models stored in a data store, the data store further storing historical transaction data from data sources, the interface module comprising interfaces for interfacing the data sources over a network;

processing the historical transaction data to yield data sets corresponding to the specified vehicle configuration;

determining pricing data for the specified vehicle configuration by applying the pricing model to the data sets, wherein the pricing data includes a price and a price range for the specified vehicle configuration;

generating a visual presentation based on the pricing data determined for the specified vehicle configuration, wherein the price is positioned relative to the price range in the visual presentation; and

sending the visual presentation to the client device for displaying, through the user interface of the website running on the client device, the price relative to the price range for the specified vehicle configuration,

wherein the receiving and the sending occur substantially simultaneously.

16. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the generating includes generating a plurality of interfaces for presentation of the pricing data determined for the specified vehicle configuration through a plurality of channels and wherein the sending including distributing the plurality of interfaces through the plurality of channels.

17. The computer program product of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of channels comprises at least a consumer facing network based application, a web page for the website, a dealer facing network based application, a text or multimedia messaging service, a website widget, a mobile phone application widget, or a voice application accessible through a phone.

18. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the website is a consumer facing website or a dealer facing website.

19. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the visual presentation includes a visual indicator indicating a percentage of consumers paid a certain price for the specified vehicle configuration or a distribution of prices within the price range for the specified vehicle configuration.

20. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the visual presentation includes at least a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price, a sticker price, an invoice price, an average paid price, a dealer cost price, a zip code, a geographical location, an incentive, a dealer offer, a time period, a bar chart, a histogram, a price curve, a price trend, or a pricing forecast.
