SEE-THROUGH COMPUTER DISPLAY SYSTEMS
Aspects of the present invention relate to methods and systems for the see-through computer display systems with focus and/or vergence adjustment systems.
1 . A head-worn display system for viewing augmented reality imagery including displayed images of objects overlaid onto a see-through view of a surrounding environment, comprising:
a. an integrated processor providing images;
b. a focus adjustment module including an image source, an actuator and a guidance mechanism;
c. multiply folded display optics including one or more lenses;
d. an illumination source;
e. a combiner that reflects a portion of light from the image source and transmits a portion of light from a surrounding environment.
2 . The head-worn display of claim 1 wherein the multiply folded display optics include a fold mirror between the focus adjustment module and the combiner.
3 . The head-worn display of claim 2 wherein the fold mirror folds the display optics to the side of the combiner to reduce the height of the display optics.
4 . The head-worn display of claim 1 wherein the multiply folded display optics include a prism.
5 . The head-worn display of claim 1 wherein the display optics are telecentric at the image source.
6 . The head-worn display of claim 5 wherein the illumination source provides telecentric illumination of the image source.
7 . The head-worn display of claim 1 further comprising a camera to capture images of the user's eye.
8 . The head-worn display of claim 7 wherein the captured image of the user's eye is reflected from the combiner before being captured by the camera.
9 . The head-worn display of claim 7 further comprising an LED to illuminate the user's eye.
10 . The head-worn display of claim 9 wherein the LED provides infrared light that the camera is sensitive to.
11 . The head-worn display of claim 1 further comprising an inertial measurement unit.
12 . The head-worn display of claim 1 wherein the actuator is a solenoid coupled to a pair of wedges.
13 . The head-worn display of claim 1 wherein the actuator is a pair of bimorph piezoelectric actuators.
14 . The head-worn display of claim 1 wherein the actuator is a scissors jack actuator.
15 . The head-worn display of claim 1 wherein the actuator is a voice coil motor.
16 . The head-worn display of claim 1 wherein the guidance mechanism is a leaf spring.
17 . The head-worn display of claim 1 wherein the guidance mechanism is a four bar linkage.
18 . The head-worn display of claim 3 wherein the focus adjustment module is located to the side of the combiner, the image source is oriented approximately vertically and closer to the multiply folded display optics than the actuator and guidance mechanism.
19 . The head-worn display of claim 7 wherein the eye camera includes an autofocus.
20 . The head-worn display of claim 19 wherein a focus setting associated with the autofocus is used to make automatic adjustments.
