Claims (6)

1. A method for the treatment of senile dementia of the Alzheimer's Type (SDAT) by administering to a patient in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of 1-alkyl, 2-acyl-glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3P); 1-alkyl, 2-acyl-glycerol; and 1-alkyl, 2-acyl-glycerylphosphatidylethanolamine (GPE);

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound is a 1-alkyl, 2-acyl-glycerol.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the side chains include a saturated or unsaturated fatty acid of the following type:

16:0, 18:0, 18:1, 18:2, or 18:3 as alkyl at the sn-1 position, and/or

16:0, 18:0, 18:1, 18:2, 18:3, 20:4, 20:5, 20:6, 22:4, 22:5, 22:6, 24:4, 24:5, or 24:6 as acyl at the sn-2 position.
