Abstract

A system, method, and device for operations of an electrically motorized vehicle. The vehicle can utilize an electrically motorized wheel to convert a non-motorized wheeled vehicle to an electrically motorized wheeled vehicle. One system to facilitate user safety when using an electrically motorized wheel includes a proximity sensor on the electrically motorized wheel in communication with a user mobile device and a proximity alert module on the mobile device enabled to alert a user when a sensed proximity crosses a threshold.

Claims (28)

1. A system to facilitate safety of a user when using a motorized human-powered vehicle, the system comprising:

a proximity system operable to detect that an object near the motorized human-powered vehicle has crossed a proximity threshold relative to the motorized human-powered vehicle;

wherein the proximity system is configured to communicate with one of the motorized human-powered vehicle, infrastructure around the motorized human-powered vehicle, another vehicle near the motorized human-powered vehicle, or a user mobile device; and

wherein the proximity system is configured to transmit a signal to one of the motorized human-powered vehicle, infrastructure around the motorized human-powered vehicle, the other vehicle near the motorized human-powered vehicle, or the user mobile device in response to detecting that the object has crossed the proximity threshold,

wherein the signal is configured to cause one of the motorized human-powered vehicle, infrastructure around the motorized human-powered vehicle, the other vehicle near the motorized human-powered vehicle, or the user mobile device to trigger one of an alert or a change in operation of the motorized human-powered vehicle.

2. The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the user mobile device is configured to produce the alert in response to receiving the signal, wherein the alert is one of an audible alert, a visual alert, or a tactile alert.

3. The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the motorized human-powered vehicle is configured to change its operation in response to receiving the signal.

4. The system recited in claim 1 , wherein the signal includes an operational command to the motorized human-powered vehicle.

5. The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the proximity system is operable to communicate the motorized human-powered vehicle's proximity to the other vehicle.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the detecting that the object has crossed the proximity threshold causes the motorized human-powered vehicle to decrease speed, brake, or triggers actions such as headlights, blinkers, hazard lights, personal electronic devices, bells, alarms, or protective equipment.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the proximity system comprises one of an optical sensor or an electromagnetic proximity sensing detector.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the proximity system is configured to detect objects in the front, side or back of the motorized human-powered vehicle.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system is configured to determine a location of nearby infrastructure by comparing a position of the motorized human-powered vehicle to a database of infrastructure locations.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the proximity system is configured to communicate data related to the motorized human-powered vehicle to the other vehicle via a local server associated with the infrastructure around the motorized human-powered vehicle.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the proximity system is configured to determine a distance between the motorized human-powered vehicle and the other vehicle based on data regarding a first location of the motorized human-powered vehicle relative to infrastructure around the motorized human-powered vehicle and data regarding a second location of the other vehicle relative to infrastructure around the motorized human-powered vehicle.

12. A method of facilitating safety of a user when using a motorized human-powered vehicle, the method comprising:

detecting, using a proximity system, that an object near the motorized human-powered vehicle has crossed a proximity threshold relative to the motorized human-powered vehicle; and

transmitting, using the proximity system, a signal to one of the motorized human-powered vehicle, infrastructure around the motorized human-powered vehicle, another vehicle near the motorized human-powered vehicle, or a user mobile device in response to detecting that the object has crossed the proximity threshold, wherein the signal is configured to cause one of the motorized human-powered vehicle, infrastructure around the motorized human-powered vehicle, the other vehicle near the motorized human-powered vehicle, or the user mobile device to trigger one of an alert or a change in operation of the motorized human-powered vehicle.

13. The method recited in claim 12 , further comprising configuring the user mobile device to produce an alert in response to receiving the signal, wherein the alert is one of an audible alert, a visual alert, or a tactile alert.

14. The method recited in claim 12 , further comprising configuring the motorized human-powered vehicle to change its operation in response to receiving the signal.

15. The method recited in claim 12 , wherein the signal includes an operational command to the motorized human-powered vehicle.

16. The method recited in claim 12 , further comprising configuring the proximity system to communicate a proximity of the motorized human-powered vehicle to the other vehicle.

17. The method recited in claim 12 , wherein the signal causes the motorized human-powered vehicle to decrease speed, brake, or triggers actions such as headlights, blinkers, hazard lights, personal electronic devices, bells, alarms, or protective equipment.

18. The method recited in claim 12 , wherein the proximity system comprises one of an optical sensor or an electromagnetic proximity sensing detector.

19. The method recited in claim 12 , further comprising configuring the proximity system to detect objects in the front, side or back of the motorized human-powered vehicle.

20. The method recited in claim 12 , further comprising configuring the proximity system to determine a location of nearby infrastructure by comparing a position of the motorized human-powered vehicle to a database of infrastructure locations.

21. The method recited in claim 12 , further comprising configuring the proximity system to communicate data related to the motorized human-powered vehicle to the other vehicle via a local server associated with the infrastructure around the motorized human-powered vehicle.

22. The method recited in claim 12 , further comprising configuring the proximity system to determine a distance between the motorized human-powered vehicle and the other vehicle based on data regarding a first location of the motorized human-powered vehicle relative to the piece of infrastructure and data regarding a second location of the other vehicle relative to the infrastructure around the motorized human-powered vehicle.
