Abstract

A firearm magazine loader. The magazine loader includes an ammunition holder adapted for receiving and holding ammunition from a tray in the same arrayed configuration in which the ammunition was held in the tray. The magazine loader includes a holder adapted for holding ammunition in an array including multiple columns and rows. The magazine loader includes a carrier and a biasing member biasing the carrier for movement. The magazine loader includes a movable carrier and a stop. The stop engages ammunition held in the carrier for indexing movement of the carrier. The magazine loader includes a plunger oriented for plunging ammunition from the carrier in a direction transverse to a direction of travel of the carrier. The magazine loader includes a slot sized and shaped for receiving a round of ammunition and configured for permitting the round of ammunition to slide along a length of the slot.

Claims (28)

1. Apparatus for loading rounds of ammunition into a firearm magazine, each round of ammunition including a bullet end and an opposite tail end, the bullet end including a bullet tip, the apparatus comprising:

a holder for supporting the rounds of ammunition to be loaded into the firearm magazine, the holder having a front, a rear, a top, a bottom, opposite sides, and a width extending between the opposite sides, the holder including multiple slots extending widthwise of the holder, the holder being constructed for receiving the rounds of ammunition from the top of the holder with the bullet ends leading the tail ends, each slot being sized for receiving multiple rounds of ammunition in a row extending widthwise of the holder, each slot having at least one open end configured to permit rounds of ammunition to be moved widthwise of the holder out of the slot through the at least one open end to be loaded into the firearm magazine, each slot having at least one support member configured to define the vertical position of the rounds of ammunition with respect to the holder when the rounds are received in the slot and supported by the at least one support member in a position in which the rounds of ammunition are generally upright and at least the bullet tips of the rounds of ammunition are below the at least one support member.

2. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 wherein the at least one support member comprises a shoulder.

3. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 wherein the at least one support member comprises first and second support members, the first support member being positioned on a front side of the slot, and the second support member being positioned on a rear side of the slot.

4. Apparatus as set forth in claim 3 wherein the first and second support members comprise first and second shoulders.

5. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 wherein each slot has a bottom, and the at least one support member is above the bottom of the slot.

6. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 wherein the at least one support member is spaced below the top of the holder.

7. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 wherein each slot is sized to be at least as tall as the rounds of ammunition.

8. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 wherein the at least one support member is configured and arranged to engage the rounds of ammunition when the rounds of ammunition are received in the slot and supported by the at least one support member.

9. Apparatus as set forth in claim 8 wherein the at least one support member is configured and arranged to engage shoulders of the rounds of ammunition when the rounds of ammunition are received in the slot and supported by the at least one support member.

10. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 wherein each slot has a closed bottom.

11. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 wherein the at least one support member extends widthwise of the holder the full width of the slot.

12. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a main body and a plunger, the main body including a magazine receiver configured to receive the firearm magazine to be loaded with the rounds of ammunition, the holder being sized and shaped to be supported by the main body for movement with respect to the main body for positioning the slots of the holder with respect to the firearm magazine, the plunger being supported by the main body and configured for plunging the rounds of ammunition from the holder into the magazine receiver.

13. Apparatus for loading rounds of ammunition into a firearm magazine, each round of ammunition including a bullet end and an opposite tail end, the bullet end including a bullet tip, the apparatus comprising,

a holder for supporting the rounds of ammunition to be loaded into the firearm magazine, the holder having a front, a rear, a top, a bottom, opposite sides, and a width extending between the opposite sides, the holder including multiple slots extending widthwise of the holder, the holder being constructed for receiving the rounds of ammunition from the top of the holder with the bullet ends leading the tail ends, each slot being sized for receiving multiple rounds of ammunition in a row extending widthwise of the holder, each slot having at least one open end configured to permit rounds of ammunition to be moved widthwise of the holder out of the at least one open end to be loaded into the firearm magazine, each slot having at least one lip constructed for supporting the rounds of ammunition when the rounds of ammunition are received in the slot, the at least one lip being positioned to be adjacent the tail ends of the rounds of ammunition when the rounds of ammunition are received in the slot and supported by the lip in a position in which the rounds of ammunition are generally upright and at least the bullet tips of the rounds of ammunition are below the at least one lip.

14. Apparatus as set forth in claim 13 wherein the rounds of ammunition include circumferential grooves at the tail ends, and wherein the at least one lip is positioned to be adjacent the circumferential grooves when the rounds of ammunition are received in the slot and supported by the lip in the position in which the rounds of ammunition are generally upright and at least the bullet tips of the rounds of ammunition are below the at least one lip.

15. Apparatus as set forth in claim 13 wherein the at least one lip is positioned to engage the rounds of ammunition when the rounds of ammunition are received in the slot and supported by the at least one lip.

16. Apparatus as set forth in claim 13 wherein the at least one lip comprises first and second lips, the first lip being positioned on a front side of the slot, and the second lip being positioned on a rear side of the slot.

17. Apparatus as set forth in claim 13 wherein each slot includes at least one rail defining the at least one lip.

18. Apparatus as set forth in claim 17 wherein the lip forms an upwardly and outwardly facing surface of the rail.

19. Apparatus as set forth in claim 13 wherein the at least one lip extends widthwise of the holder the full width of the slot.

20. Apparatus as set forth in claim 13 further comprising a main body and a plunger, the main body including a magazine receiver configured to receive the firearm magazine to be loaded with the rounds of ammunition, the holder being sized and shaped to be supported by the main body for movement with respect to the main body for positioning the slots of the holder with respect to the firearm magazine, the plunger being supported by the main body and configured for plunging the rounds of ammunition from the holder into the magazine receiver.
