Abstract

Collapsible tissue anchor device and method for inserting into a tissue structure in a first non-collapsed configuration and collapsing into a second collapsed configuration. A sleeve is provided having a bolt or shank extending through an interior. The bolt or shank exerts a force upon the sleeve to collapse it thereby forming flanges that engage or abut tissue. A sling, suture, mesh or the like may be coupled to a portion of the anchor to support tissue or an organ.

Claims (26)

1. A collapsible tissue anchor system, comprising:

an elongate sleeve having a distal end portion defining a first opening, and a proximal end portion defining a second opening, the elongate sleeve having a sidewall defining a lumen that extends between the first opening and the second opening, the sidewall including a collapsing portion configured to move between an extended state and a collapse state;

an elongate anchor member disposed at least partially within the lumen of the elongate sleeve, the elongate anchor member having a head portion, a shaft portion, and a travel end portion, the head portion having a size larger than the lumen of the elongate sleeve, the travel end portion having a size larger than a size of the shaft portion, the head portion being disposed outside the lumen and configured to engage with the distal end portion of the elongate sleeve at the first opening the travel end portion being disposed within the lumen of the elongate sleeve when the collapsing portion is in the extended state;

the head portion of the elongate anchor member and a portion of the elongate sleeve configured to be inserted through bodily tissue in a first direction,

the collapsing portion configured to collapse upon itself in response to pressure applied on the elongate anchor member in a second direction opposite to the first direction, wherein, when the collapsing portion collapses upon itself, the collapsing portion defines a plurality of radially extending flanges.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein an interior of the elongate sleeve includes a locking member at the proximal end portion of the elongate sleeve, the locking member configured to engage with the travel end portion of the elongate anchor member.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the collapsing portion of the elongate sleeve includes a plurality of longitudinal slots.

4. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a suture coupled to the travel end portion of the elongate anchor member.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the collapsing portion of the elongate sleeve includes one or more living hinges.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the collapsing portion of the elongate sleeve includes one or more weakened wall portions.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the collapsing portion includes a first collapsing portion defining a first set of slots, and a second collapsing portion defining a second set of slots, the first collapsing portion being separated from the second collapsing portion by an intermediate body portion of the elongate sleeve, the first collapsing portion and the second collapsing portion configure to be disposed on opposite sides of the bodily tissue.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the proximal end portion of the elongate sleeve includes a flange.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the travel end portion of the elongate anchor member includes a portion that is angled and rigid.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the travel end portion includes a plurality of angled members.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the travel end portion includes indexing teeth.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the entire shaft portion is disposed within the lumen of the elongate sleeve.

13. A collapsible tissue anchor system, comprising:

an elongate sleeve having a distal end portion defining a first opening, and a proximal end portion defining a second opening, the elongate sleeve having a sidewall defining a lumen that extends between the first opening and the second opening, the sidewall including a collapsing portion configured to move between an extended state and a collapse state, the collapsing portion defining one or more longitudinal slots through a portion of the sidewall; and

an elongate anchor member disposed at least partially within the lumen of the elongate sleeve, the elongate anchor member having a head portion, a shaft portion, and a travel end portion, the head portion having a size larger than the lumen of the elongate sleeve, the travel end portion having a size larger than a size of the shaft portion, the head portion being disposed outside the lumen and configured to engage with the distal end portion of the elongate sleeve at the first opening, the travel end portion being disposed within the lumen of the elongate sleeve when the collapsing portion is in the extended state; and

a suture coupled directly to the travel end portion of the elongate anchor member,

the head portion of the elongate anchor member and a portion of the elongate sleeve configured to be inserted through bodily tissue in a first direction,

the collapsing portion configured to collapse upon itself in response to a pulling pressure applied on the suture in a second direction opposite to the first direction, wherein, when the collapsing portion collapses upon itself, the collapsing portion defines a plurality of radially extending flanges.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein an interior of the elongate sleeve includes a locking member at the proximal end portion of the elongate sleeve, the locking member configured to engage with the travel end portion of the elongate anchor member.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the locking member includes one or more tabs extending into the interior of the elongate sleeve.

16. The system of claim 14 , wherein the travel end portion includes an angled portion, the angled portion configured to engage with the locking member.

17. The system of claim 13 , wherein the head portion includes a rounded portion.
