Abstract

An apparatus for treating skin has a console with a user input device and a handpiece assembly. The handpiece assembly is configured to treat skin. A fluid line provides fluid communication between the console and the handpiece assembly. A manifold system is coupled to the console and controlled by the user input device. The manifold system is configured to hold releasably a plurality of fluid sources and deliver fluid from at least one of the plurality of fluid sources to the handpiece assembly.

Claims (29)

1. A tip configured to be secured to a skin treatment handpiece, the tip comprising:

an outer member defining a periphery of a distal end of the tip;

at least one fluid delivery opening extending to or near the distal end of the tip, the at least one fluid delivery opening being configured to provide a fluid to the tip;

at least one return opening extending to or near the distal end of the tip, the at least one return opening being configured to remove waste materials from the distal end of the tip, wherein the at least one return opening is configured to be placed in fluid communication with a vacuum source;

at least one inner member spaced apart from the outer member and configured to abrade skin when the tip is moved relative to a skin surface; and

at least one treatment material positioned along the tip, wherein at least a portion of the at least one treatment material is configured to be released when the at least one treatment material contacts a fluid delivered to the tip via the at least one fluid delivery opening, wherein the at least one treatment material is carried in a cavity or a pocket of the tip;

wherein the at least one inner member and the cavity or pocket are located within an interior of the periphery, and wherein fluid delivered to the tip via the at least one fluid delivery opening is in fluid communication with both the at least one inner member and the cavity or pocket when the vacuum source is activated.

2. The tip of claim 1 , wherein the at least one treatment material comprises a solid form.

3. The tip of claim 1 , wherein the at least one inner member comprises at least one sharp edge or surface.

4. The tip of claim 1 , wherein the at least one inner member comprises an abrasive pad.

5. The tip of claim 1 , wherein the at least one inner member extends in a curved fashion across at least a portion of a distal face of the tip.

6. The tip of claim 1 , wherein the at least one inner member extends in a spiral fashion across at least a portion of a distal face of the tip.

7. The tip of claim 1 , wherein the at least one inner member comprises at least one protruding member.

8. The tip of claim 7 , wherein the at least one protruding member is configured to contain the at least one treatment material.

9. The tip of claim 7 , wherein the at least one protruding member comprises a cylindrical shape.

10. The tip of claim 1 , wherein the tip is configured to removably secure to a distal end of a skin treatment handpiece.

11. The tip of claim 1 , further comprising a tip connector extending from a proximal end of the tip, the tip connector being configured to secure to a skin treatment handpiece.

12. The tip of claim 1 , wherein fluid from a fluid source is delivered through the at least one fluid delivery opening when the outer member is positioned along a skin surface and the vacuum source is activated to create suction along the at least one return opening.

13. A tip configured to be secured to a skin treatment handpiece, the tip comprising:

at least one fluid delivery opening extending to or near a distal end of the tip, the at least one fluid delivery opening being configured to provide a fluid to the tip, the tip comprising an outer member defining a periphery;

at least one treatment material positioned along the tip, wherein at least a portion of the at least one treatment material is configured to be released when the at least one treatment material contacts a fluid delivered to the tip via the at least one fluid delivery opening, wherein the at least one treatment material is carried in a cavity or a pocket of the tip; and

at least one inner member spaced apart from the outer member and configured to abrade skin when the tip is moved relative to a skin surface; and

at least one return opening extending to or near the distal end of the tip, the at least one return opening being configured to remove waste materials from the distal end of the tip, wherein the at least one return opening is configured to be placed in fluid communication with a vacuum source;

wherein the cavity or pocket is located within the interior of the periphery, and wherein fluid delivered to the tip via the at least one fluid delivery opening is in fluid communication with the cavity or pocket; and

wherein fluid from a fluid source is delivered through the at least one fluid delivery opening when a peripheral lip of the tip is positioned along a skin surface and the vacuum source is activated to create suction along the at least one return opening.

14. The tip of claim 13 , wherein the at least one treatment material comprises a solid form.

15. The tip of claim 13 , wherein the at least one inner member comprises at least one protruding member, the distal end of the at least one protruding member configured to contact skin when the tip is in use.

16. The tip of claim 15 , wherein the at least one protruding member is configured to contain the at least one treatment material.

17. The tip of claim 15 , wherein the at least one protruding member comprises a cylindrical shape.
