Abstract

A method for a smart-device comprising receiving a user selection of an icon on a display, initiating acquisition of a first image of a target surface using a camera in response to receiving the selection, directing power to an UV-LED disposed proximate to the camera, wherein the power is provided to the UV-LEDs for less than about 0.5 seconds, while power is provided to the UV-LED, initiating acquisition of a second image of a target surface using the camera, determining an image visually highlighting a contaminant on the target surface in response to the first and second images, determining an object type associated with the target surface, in response to the first image, determining geographic data, and storing the image, the object type, and the geographic data in a memory.

Claims (26)

1. A method for a smart-device comprising:

receiving, with a processor of the smart-device, selection by a user of an icon displayed on a display of the smart device;

initiating, with the processor of the smart-device, acquisition of a first image of a target surface using a camera of the smart device in response to receiving the selection by the user;

directing, with the processor of the smart-device, power to one or more UV-LEDs disposed proximate to the camera of the smart device, wherein the power is provided to the one or more UV-LEDs for an amount of time, and wherein the amount of time is about 0.5 seconds, or less;

while power is directed to the one or more UV-LEDs, initiating, with the processor of the smart-device, acquisition of a second image of a target surface using the camera;

determining, with the processor, an image visually highlighting one or more contaminants disposed upon the target surface in response to the first image and the second image;

determining, with the processor, an object type associated with the target surface, in response to the first image;

determining, with the processor, geographic data, in response to receiving the selection by the user; and

storing, with the processor, the image, the object type, and the geographic data in a memory of the smart-device.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the determining, with the processor, the object type associated with the target surface comprises:

transmitting, with the processor, the first image of the target surface to a remote server; and

receiving, with the processor, the object type from the remote server.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising transmitting, with the processor, the geographic data to the remote server.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

determining, with the processor, one or more UV illumination parameters for the one or more UV-LEDs, in response to the object type.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein the determining, with the processor, the one or more UV illumination parameters comprises:

transmitting, with the processor, the image to a remote server; and

receiving, with the processor, the one or more UV illumination parameters.

6. The method of claim 4 further comprising:

directing, with the processor, specified power to the one or more UV-LEDs of the smart device in response to the one or more UV illumination parameters.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein the one or more UV illumination parameters is selected from a group consisting of: exposure duration, power output, duty cycle, or the like.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the amount of time is less than about 100 milliseconds.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

determining, with the processor, whether the object type comprises a prohibited object type; and

inhibiting, with the processor, power from the one or more UV-LEDs of the smart device when the object type is determined to be the prohibited object type.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the directing, with the processor, power to one or more UV-LEDs comprises outputting UV light with a power less than about 200 milliwatts.
