Abstract

Systems and methods for an electronic health coaching method for coaching a user through a heal plan are disclosed. The electronic health coaching method may include providing a nutrition database; receiving an electronic food data entry; linking the electronic food data entry with one of the plurality of food items in the nutrition database; calculating nutritional information based on the electronic food data entry and the one of the plurality of food items; displaying the nutritional information on a display screen; providing an exercise database; receiving an electronic exercise data entry; linking the electronic exercise data entry with one of the plurality of exercises in the exercise database; calculating expended energy based on the electronic exercise data entry and the one of the plurality of exercises; and displaying the expended energy on the display screen.

Claims (52)

1 . A portable electronic health coaching system for coaching a user through a health plan comprising:

a memory; and

a processor configured to:

receive a first entry including a first input corresponding to a physical activity performed by a user;

receive a second entry comprising a second input corresponding to a food item consumed by the user;

access a first database having a plurality of physical activities and corresponding caloric values for each physical activity;

access a second database having a plurality of food items and corresponding caloric values for each food item;

determine that the physical activity performed by the user matches one of the plurality of physical activities in the first database;

calculate a first caloric value using the first input and the corresponding caloric value for the matching physical activity;

determine that the food item consumed by the user matches one of the plurality of food items in the second database; and

calculate a second caloric value using the second input at d the corresponding caloric value for the matching food item.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to display the first entry and the second entry.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to display the first caloric value and the second caloric value.

4 . A computer-implemented method for estimating energy consumed by a user during an activity, the method comprising:

collecting electronic personal data related to the user using a portable electronic device, the portable electronic device comprising a microprocessor, a display screen, a user input, a satellite positioning system receiver, an accelerometer, and a wireless communication transceiver;

storing the electronic personal data in a memory;

collecting electronic performance data related to the activity using the portable electronic device;

storing the electronic performance data in the memory;

estimating the energy consumed by the user during the activity based on the electronic performance data; and

displaying the energy consumed on the display screen.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the unit of the energy consumed is calories.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein estimating the energy consumed is further based on the electronic personal data.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the electronic personal data comprises one of gender, height, weight, and age of the user.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the electronic personal data comprises one of resting heart rate and maximum heart rate of the user.

9 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the collecting the electronic performance data includes collecting first electronic performance data from a first completed activity.

10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the collecting the electronic performance data further includes collecting second electronic performance data from a second completed activity.

11 . The method of claim 4 , wherein collecting electronic performance data occurs during the activity.

12 . An electronic health coaching method for coaching a user through a health plan, comprising;

providing a nutrition database stored in a memory, the nutrition database including a plurality of food items and nutritional values for each of the plurality of food items;

receiving an electronic food data entry related to a food eaten by a user;

linking the electronic food data entry with one of the plurality of food items in the nutrition database;

calculating nutritional information based on the electronic food data entry and the one of the plurality of food items;

displaying the nutritional information on a display screen.

13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

displaying the electronic food data entry on the display screen.

14 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

displaying the one of the plurality of food items on the display screen.

15 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

providing an exercise database stored in a memory, the exercise database including a plurality of exercises and energy values for each of the plurality of exercises;

receiving an electronic exercise data entry related to an exercise performed by the user;

linking the electronic exercise data entry with one of the plurality of exercises in the exercise database;

calculating expended energy based on the electronic exercise data entry and the one of the plurality of exercises;

displaying the expended energy on the display screen.

16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the unit, of expended energy is calories.

17 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

displaying the electronic exercise data entry on the display screen.

18 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

displaying the one of the plurality of exercises on the display screen.

19 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

collecting electronic personal data related to the user,

wherein the calculating the expended energy is further based on the electronic personal data.

20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the electronic personal data comprises one of gender, height, weight, age, resting heart rate, and maximum heart rate of the user.
