Abstract

A system of supports for running lengths of tubing between points in a facility independent of wiring carried by cable trays. In an embodiment, each support includes a support assembly including lengths of strut channel and channel clamps secured to the strut channel. In an embodiment, each support includes a generally vertical bar attached to a structural member of the facility, one or two support assemblies clamped to the vertical body, and a removable support bracket carried by at least one of the strut channels. Moveable clamps above the support bracket support lengths of tubing.

Claims (23)

1. A support system for tubing adapted to carry fluid, the system comprising a hanger support assembly which may be clamped to a support member, the hanger support assembly comprising

a strut channel with a generally vertical long axis, the strut channel having an upper end and a lower end, the strut channel comprising two elongate parallel arms connected by a web, the parallel arms having inwardly turned free ends defining a gap between the arms,

a stop in the lower end of the strut channel, and

a hanger bracket removably mounted in the strut channel and supported between the inwardly turned free ends of the arms, the hanger bracket comprising a generally horizontal supporting surface, the stop in the lower end of the strut channel preventing the hanger bracket from sliding out of the lower end of the strut channel.

A support system for tubing adapted to carry fluid, the system comprising a hanger support assembly which may be clamped to a support member, the hanger support assembly comprising a strut channel with a generally vertical long axis, the strut channel comprising two elongate parallel arms connected by a web, the parallel arms having inwardly turned free ends defining a gap between the arms, and a hanger bracket removably mounted in the strut channel, the hanger bracket comprising a generally horizontal supporting surface, wherein the bracket is mounted at a lower end of the strut channel, the bracket including a generally horizontal shelf sized to support a plurality of tubes or tubing bundles, the system further comprising a plurality of clamps moveably mounted in the strut channel, each said clamp being sized to support at least one tube or tubing bundle above the shelf.

A support system for tubing adapted to carry fluid, the system comprising a hanger support assembly which may be clamped to a support member, the hanger support assembly comprising a strut channel with a generally vertical long axis, the strut channel comprising two elongate parallel arms connected by a web, the parallel arms having inwardly turned free ends defining a gap between the arms, and a hanger bracket removably mounted in the strut channel, the hanger bracket comprising a generally horizontal supporting surface, the system further comprising a channel clamp member attached to a top and a bottom of the strut channel.

4. The support system of claim 3 wherein the channel clamp member comprises laterally extending portions extending beyond the support member, and compression members mounted to the laterally extending portions and holding the strut channel to the support member.

5. The support system of claim 4 wherein strut channels are positioned on opposing sides of the vertically extending body, the compression members extending between laterally extending portions of opposed channel clamp members.

6. The support system of claim 5 wherein at least one hanger support is a rectangular support bar, the channel clamp members being clamped flush with opposing faces of the support bar.

7. The support system of claim 3 wherein the channel clamp includes a channel containment ledge which covers the open end of the strut channel.

8. The support system of claim 3 wherein the channel clamp includes a web part and two spaced-apart ears bent at an angle from the web part.

9. The support system of claim 8 wherein at least one support assembly is clamped flush with a first face of a rectangular support bar, the ears extending adjacent faces adjoining said first face to position the support assembly.

10. The support system of claim 9 wherein a second support assembly is clamped flush with a face of the rectangular support bar opposite the first face, a clamping member extending from the first-mentioned support assembly to the second support assembly.

A support system for tubing adapted to carry fluid, the system comprising a hanger support assembly which may be clamped to a support member, the hanger support assembly comprising a strut channel with a generally vertical long axis, the strut channel comprising two elongate parallel arms connected by a web, the parallel arms having inwardly turned free ends defining a gap between the arms, and a hanger bracket removably mounted in the strut channel, the hanger bracket comprising a generally horizontal supporting surface, wherein the support assembly is clamped to the support member, the support member comprising a radially extending stop at its lower end, the radially extending stop being sized to prevent the strut channel from sliding off the end of the support member.

A facility comprising at least one structural beam having a web and generally horizontal arms connected by the web, the beam carrying runs of electrical cables and runs of tubing, the facility comprising at least one cable tray carrying at least some runs of cable and a tubing support system independently carrying at least some runs of tubing, the tubing support system being mounted to the at least one structural beam independent of the cable tray, the tubing support system comprising vertical strut channels attached to the at least one structural beam, each strut channel having an upper end and a lower end, each strut channel comprising two elongate parallel arms connected by a web, the parallel arms having inwardly turned free ends defining a gap between the arms, at least two adjacent said vertical strut channels being spaced apart at least two feet.

13. The facility of claim 12 wherein at least most adjacent vertical strut channels are spaced apart at least about three feet.

A support system for industrial tubing, the support system comprising a support assembly including a length of strut channel, the strut channel having a first end and a second end, the strut channel comprising two elongate parallel arms connected by a web, the parallel arms having inwardly turned free ends defining a gap between the arms, the support assembly further comprising at least one channel clamp fixedly secured to an end of the strut channel, the at least one channel clamp being constructed and proportioned to fasten the strut channel to a support, and at least one tubing clamp held in the strut channel between the inwardly turned free ends of the arms, the tubing clamp being constructed and proportioned to carry tubing.

15. The support system of claim 14 wherein plural tubing clamps are held by the strut channel, the tubing clamps being individually movably and removably held in the strut channel.

16. The support system of claim 14 wherein said at least one channel clamp comprises a channel containment ledge which covers an open end of the strut channel, a web part, and two spaced-apart ears bent at an angle from the web part.

A support system for industrial tubing, the support system comprising a support assembly including a length of strut channel, the strut channel having a first open end and a second open end, the strut channel comprising two elongate parallel arms connected by a web, the parallel arms having inwardly turned free ends defining a gap between the arms, and channel clamps welded to the open ends of the strut channel, each channel clamp being constructed and proportioned to fasten the strut channel to a support, each channel clamp comprising a channel containment ledge which covers an open end of the strut channel, and two spaced-apart ears constructed and proportioned to align the strut channel with respect to the support.

18. The support system of claim 17 wherein the support assembly is clamped flush with a first face of a rectangular support bar welded to a web or flange of a structural I-beam, the ears extending adjacent faces adjoining said first face to position the support assembly.

19. The support system of claim 17 wherein two support assemblies are positioned on opposing sides of a support bar and are held by bolts extending through both assemblies.

20. The support system of claim 17 wherein the channel clamp includes a channel containment ledge which covers the open end of the strut channel, a clamp web part flush with the web of the strut channel, and two spaced-apart ears bent at an angle to the channel web, the clamp web part including bolt holes adapted to accommodate mounting bolts.
