Vascular sealing device with high surface area sealing plug
View Patent ↗An internal tissue puncture closure method and apparatus. The method and apparatus provide a folded sealing plug that provides more surface area than conventional plugs to more fully cover and seal an external situs of an internal tissue puncture. The folded sealing plug may have a weave pattern that tends to cause the sealing plug to corkscrew into the internal tissue puncture as it is compressed toward an anchor placed inside of the tissue puncture.
1. A tissue puncture closure device, comprising:
a suture;
an anchor;
a sealing plug comprising a first plurality of holes and a second plurality of holes, the suture extending through the first and second plurality of holes in a non-linear weave pattern, wherein the non-linear weave pattern comprises a spiral configuration to provide a corkscrew effect as the suture compresses the sealing plug relative to the anchor.
2. The tissue puncture closure device of claim 1 , wherein the sealing plug includes first and second portions in which the first and second plurality of holes are formed, respectively.
3. The tissue puncture closure device of claim 1 , wherein the sealing plug is folded about a fold line that is arranged lateral to a length dimension of the sealing plug.
4. The tissue puncture closure device of claim 1 wherein the sealing plug is configured to be twisted into a different shape when compressed.
5. A tissue puncture closure device, comprising:
a suture;
an anchor;
a sealing plug comprising a first plurality of holes and a second plurality of holes, the suture extending through the first and second plurality of holes in a non-linear weave pattern, wherein the non-linear weave pattern comprises a zigzag pattern to provide a corkscrew effect as the suture compresses the sealing plug relative to the anchor.
6. The tissue puncture closure device of claim 5 , wherein the sealing plug includes first and second portions in which the first and second plurality of holes are formed, respectively.
7. The tissue puncture closure device of claim 5 , wherein the sealing plug is folded about a fold line that is arranged lateral to a length dimension of the sealing plug.
8. The tissue puncture closure device of claim 5 , wherein the sealing plug is configured to be twisted into a different shape when compressed.
9. The tissue puncture closure device of claim 5 , wherein the weave pattern comprises a five-hole zigzag pattern.
