Abstract

Safe, stable, non-toxic and recyclable cooling compositions comprising solid particulate compounds undergo an endothermic process when mixed with water such that the resulting mixture is useful for cooling surfaces, liquids and solids. The compositions always include one or more compounds from a group consisting of endothermic compounds that contain potassium; one or more compounds from a group of endothermic compounds that contain nitrogen; and at least one compound from a group consisting of ammonium phosphate, diammonium phosphate, ammonium polyphosphate, ammonium pyrophosphate and ammonium metaphosphate such that the compound or mixture of compounds in this group is at least 1% by weight of the final composition.

Claims (11)

1. In an evaporative cooling system, the improvement comprising:

a salt-based cooling agent composition in crystalized form on an evaporative support, the salt-based cooling agent composition having a capacity to provide an endothermic effect to enhance cooling when mixed with water; and

means for mixing the crystalized salt based cooling agent composition with water to provide the endothermic effect; and

means for recycling the salt-based cooling agent composition and water mixture for recrystallization on the evaporative support.

2. The evaporative cooling system of claim 1 , wherein the salt-based cooling agent composition is primarily ammonium nitrate that has been stabilized against detonation by the addition of an effective amount of phosphate material.

3. The evaporative cooling system of claim 1 , wherein the system is constructed and arranged for the endothermic effect to cool a building interior area selected from the group consisting of a house, a data center, a computer room, and an industrial facility.

4. The evaporative cooling system of claim 1 , wherein the system is constructed and arranged for the endothermic effect to cool a cooling tower selected from the group consisting of a counterflow tower and a crossflow tower.

5. The evaporative cooling system of claim 1 , wherein the system is constructed and arranged for the endothermic effect to cool bearings on a solar wind turbine.

6. The evaporative cooling system of claim 1 , wherein the system is constructed and arranged for the for the endothermic effect to cool a solar panel.

7. The evaporative cooling system of claim 1 , wherein the cooling agent composition in substantially complete crystalized salt-based form is capable of cooling in the amount of at least 130 Btu/lb due to endothermic effect when mixed with water.

8. The evaporative cooling system of claim 1 , wherein the recycled cooling agent composition can also be used as a soil fertilizer.
