METHOD AND TOOLS FOR IMPLANTED DEVICE
A method and toolset capable of remotely moving a rotor of an implanted device in a first arcuate direction and detecting a first limit of travel, moving the rotor in a second, opposite direction and detecting a second limit of travel without altering the current performance setting of the implanted device, comparing the first and second limits of travel with known values for a plurality of selectable performance settings, and indicating the current performance setting of the implanted device.
1 . A positioning toolset suitable for indicating and adjusting the current performance setting of a magnetically adjustable device implanted in a patient, the implanted device having at least one magnet aligned with the current performance setting of the device, the toolset comprising:
an indicator tool with at least one sensor that detects the location of the implanted device and determines the current performance setting of the implanted device, the indicator tool being capable of guiding a user to move the indicator tool to an optimum position relative to the implanted device and including at least one locating feature to designate the optimum position of the indicator tool; and
an adjustment tool having at least one adjustor magnet and at least one locating feature to align the adjustment tool with the optimum position of the indicator tool, the adjustor magnet being movable relative to the at least one locating feature to change the performance setting of the implanted device.
2 . The toolset of claim 1 wherein the at least one locating feature of the indicator tool is independent from the at least one locating feature of the adjustment tool.
3 . The toolset of claim 2 wherein at least one of the locating features of the indicator tool and the adjustment tool is a marking guide capable of assisting a user in placing and aligning a reference mark on a patient.
