Abstract

A method and system for enhanced viewing of a display device is disclosed in this application. In some implementations, a method and system for improving a perceived contrast of a screen of a display device is disclosed. Some implementations may also relate to a method and system for privately viewing content displayed on a screen.

Claims (25)

1. An enhanced viewing device for enhancing a perceived contrast of a display, the enhanced viewing device comprising:

an optical element configured to allow viewing of the display through the optical element; and

a feedback sensor, the feedback sensor being configured to generate a signal that synchronizes timing of an emission of the display and timing of a transmissive state of the optical element, wherein optical element comprises a liquid crystal display (LCD) shutter, and the feedback sensor is configured to detect a voltage applied to the LCD shutter.

2. The enhanced viewing device of claim 1 , wherein the enhanced viewing device is eyewear.

3. The enhanced viewing device of claim 1 , wherein the feedback sensor is configured to detect an opacity of the enhanced viewing device.

4. The enhanced viewing device of claim 1 , wherein the feedback sensor is configured to detect light transmitted through the LCD shutter.

5. The enhanced viewing device of claim 1 , wherein the feedback sensor is configured to detect light emitted from the display.

6. The enhanced viewing device of claim 1 , wherein the feedback sensor is an optical sensor.

7. The enhanced viewing device of claim 1 , wherein the feedback sensor is configured to generate a signal configure to identify a timing error between the display and the enhance viewing device.

8. The enhanced viewing device of claim 7 , further comprising circuitry configured to utilize the signal to adjust a timing of the optical element.

9. A system for improving a perceived contrast of a video screen, the system comprising:

a display device; and

an optical enhancement device, wherein the display device is configured to detect use of the optical enhancement device and initiate a power saving mode in response to the use of the optical enhancement device.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the optical enhancement device is configured as eyewear.

11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the display device is configured to detect the use of the optical enhancement device based on a signal from the optical enhancement device.

12. The system of claim 9 , wherein the display device is configured to change display parameters in response to detecting the optical enhancement device.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the display device is configured to reduce brightness in response to detecting the optical enhancement device.

14. The system of claim 12 , wherein the display device is configured to reduce contrast in response to detecting the optical enhancement device.

15. The system of claim 12 , wherein the display device is configured to reduce update frequency in response to detecting the optical enhancement device.

16. The system of claim 12 , wherein the display device is configured to reduce color palate in response to detecting the optical enhancement device.

17. An enhanced viewing device for enhancing a perceived contrast of a display, the enhanced viewing device comprising:

an optical element configure to allow viewing of the display through the optical element; and

circuitry configured to control transmission characteristics of the optical element, the circuitry being configured to increase transmission of the optical element in response to the display showing a first frame and decrease transmission of the optical element in response to the display showing a second frame, wherein a first time period of increased transmission during the first frame is shorter than a second time period of decreased transmission during the second frame.

18. The enhanced viewing device of claim 17 , wherein the optical element and circuitry are integrated into eyewear.

19. The enhanced viewing device of claim 18 , wherein the eyewear is paired with the display to synchronize the optical element and display of the first frame and second frame.
