Abstract

An electrically heated aerosol generating system for receiving an aerosol-forming substrate includes at least one electric heater for heating the aerosol-forming substrate to form the aerosol. The heater includes a heating element of a first cross section electrically connected to a plurality of elongate support elements. Each support element has a cross section greater than the first cross section. At least one of the support elements is integrally formed with the heating element.

Claims (14)

1. An electrically heated aerosol generating system for receiving a capillary wick, the system comprising: a capillary wick and at least one electric heater for heating the capillary wick to form aerosol, the at least one electric heater including a positive connector blade extending parallel to a negative connector blade, a heating element extending between the positive and negative connector blades, a lower reinforcing strut extending from the positive connector blade towards the negative connector blade, and an upper reinforcing strut extending from the negative connector blade towards the positive connector blade, the upper and lower reinforcing struts extending at least partially around the capillary wick so as to maintain the heating element in contact with the capillary wick.

2. The electrically heated aerosol generating system of claim 1 , wherein the capillary wick is in communication with a liquid storage portion.

3. The electrically heated aerosol generating system of claim 1 , wherein the heating element includes longitudinal portions extending parallel to the positive and negative connector blades and transverse portions extending perpendicular to the positive and negative connector blades.

4. The electrically heated aerosol generating system of claim 1 , wherein the heating element, upper and lower reinforcing struts and positive and negative connector blades are formed from a single sheet of resistance heating material.

5. The electrically heated aerosol generating system of claim 1 , further comprising a second lower reinforcing strut extending from the negative connector blade towards the positive connector blade and a second upper reinforcing strut extending from the positive connector blade towards the negative connector blade.

6. The electrically heated aerosol generating system of claim 1 , further comprising reinforcing portions adjacent the positive and negative connector blades, the reinforcing portions including struts extending between the positive and negative connector blades and adjacent portions of the heating element.

7. The electrically heated aerosol generating system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one heater has a cylindrical shape.

8. The electrically heated aerosol generating system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one heater is biased to spring inwards against the capillary wick.

9. The electrically heated aerosol generating system of claim 1 , wherein the heating element has a triangular wave shape.

10. The electrically heated aerosol generating system of claim 1 , wherein the heating element has a sinusoidal shape.

11. An electrically heated aerosol generating system for receiving a capillary wick, the system comprising: a capillary wick and at least one electric heater for heating the capillary wick to form aerosol, the at least one heater including a first connector blade extending parallel to a second connector blade, a heating element extending between the first and second connector blades, a first reinforcing strut extending from the first connector blade towards the second connector blade, and a second reinforcing strut extending from the second connector blade towards the first connector blade, the first and second reinforcing struts extending at least partially around the capillary wick so as to maintain the heating element in contact with the capillary wick.

12. The electrically heated aerosol generating system of claim 11 , wherein the heating element, first and second reinforcing struts and first and second connector blades are formed from a single sheet of resistance heating material.

13. An electrically heated aerosol generating system for receiving a capillary wick, the system comprising: a liquid storage, a capillary wick in contact with liquid in the liquid storage and at least one electric heater, the at least one heater including a first connector blade extending parallel to a second connector blade, a heating element extending between the first and second connector blades, a first reinforcing strut extending from the first connector blade towards the second connector blade, and a second reinforcing strut extending from the second connector blade towards the first connector blade, the first and second reinforcing struts extending at least partially around the capillary wick so as to maintain the heating element in contact with the capillary wick.

14. The electrically heated aerosol generating system of claim 13 , wherein the heating element, first and second reinforcing struts and first and second connector blades are formed from a single sheet of resistance heating material.
