Abstract

A personal items network, comprising a plurality of items, each item having a wireless communications port for coupling in network with every other item, each item having a processor for determining if any other item in the network is no longer linked to the item, each item having an indicator for informing a user that an item has left the network, wherein a user may locate lost items. A method for locating lost personal items, comprising: linking at least two personal items together on a network; and depositing one or both of time and location information in an unlost item when one of the items is lost out of network.

Claims (39)

1. A system comprising:

a housing;

a strap coupled to the housing and operative to be worn on a wrist of a person for attaching the housing to the wrist of the person;

at least one sensor positioned at least partially within the housing and operative to sense a health characteristic of the person when the housing is attached to the wrist of the person;

a processor positioned at least partially within the housing and operative to process signals from the at least one sensor to identify when the sensed health characteristic exceeds a predetermined threshold; and

a communications component positioned at least partially within the housing and coupled to the processor and operative to wirelessly transmit data indicative of the sensed health characteristic automatically only when the sensed health characteristic is identified to exceed the predetermined threshold.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor comprises an electro-resistive element.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the transmitted data indicative of the sensed health characteristic comprises time information indicative of when the sensed health characteristic was identified to exceed the predetermined threshold.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the health characteristic is one of a blood glucose level, oxygen saturation, hydrogen ion activity, or blood gas level.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor comprises at least one of:

a microphone;

a force-sensing resistor;

a Hall Effect detector; or

a piezoelectric strip.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the health characteristic of the person is heart rate.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the health characteristic of the person is respiratory rate.

8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the health characteristic is a blood glucose level.

9. The device of claim 1 , wherein the health characteristic is oxygen saturation.

10. The device of claim 1 , wherein the health characteristic is hydrogen ion activity.

11. The device of claim 1 , wherein the health characteristic is blood gas level.

12. The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor comprises a microphone.

13. The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor comprises a force-sensing resistor.

14. The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor comprises a Hall Effect detector.

15. The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor comprises a piezoelectric strip.

16. The device of claim 1 , wherein the communications component is positioned within the housing.

17. A system comprising:

a housing operative to be worn on a wrist of a person;

at least one sensor positioned at least partially within the housing and operative to sense a health characteristic of the person when the housing is worn by the person;

a processor positioned at least partially within the housing and operative to process signals from the at least one sensor to identify when the sensed health characteristic exceeds a predetermined threshold; and

a communications component positioned within the housing and coupled to the processor and operative to wirelessly transmit data indicative of the sensed health characteristic automatically out from the housing only when the sensed health characteristic is identified to exceed the predetermined threshold, wherein the at least one sensor comprises a force-sensing resistor.

18. A system comprising:

a housing operative to be worn on a wrist of a person;

at least one sensor positioned at least partially within the housing and operative to sense a health characteristic of the person when the housing is worn by the person;

a processor positioned at least partially within the housing and operative to process signals from the at least one sensor to identify when the sensed health characteristic exceeds a predetermined threshold; and

a communications component coupled to the processor and operative to wirelessly transmit data indicative of the sensed health characteristic automatically only when the sensed health characteristic is identified to exceed the predetermined threshold, wherein the at least one sensor comprises at least one of:

a Hall Effect detector; or

a piezoelectric strip.

19. The device of claim 18 , wherein the at least one sensor comprises a piezoelectric strip.

20. The device of claim 18 , wherein the at least one sensor comprises a Hall Effect detector.
