Abstract

A wound dressing member is provided for use in a vacuum bandage connected to a vacuum source. The wound dressing member is also provided for use with a wound having a wound surface. The wound dressing member includes a wound facing surface adapted to be in contact with and generally conform to the wound surface and a plurality of discrete holes formed in the wound facing surface. The member further includes a port configured to communicate with the vacuum source and with each hole formed in the wound facing surface. The wound dressing member further includes a stand-off having interconnected portions coupled to the wound facing surface and configured to provide a space between the wound facing surface and the wound surface.

Claims (33)

1. A wound dressing member for use in a vacuum bandage connected to a vacuum source for applying reduced pressure to a wound having a wound surface, the member comprising:

a wound facing surface adapted to face toward the wound surface;

at least one discrete hole formed in the wound facing surface through the member and configured to fluidly communicate with the vacuum source and the wound surface;

a plurality of channels formed in the wound facing surface and configured to form passageways between the wound facing surface and the wound surface in fluid communication with the at least one discrete hole, wherein the plurality of channels form an interconnected pattern including radial arms extending outwardly from the at least one discrete hole; and

wherein the member is formed from a material being sufficiently transparent to enable a caregiver to see the wound through the member when disposed adjacent the wound surface.

2. The wound dressing member of claim 1 , wherein the material is generally non-porous.

3. The wound dressing member of claim 1 , wherein the member comprises generally porous material.

4. The wound dressing member of claim 1 , wherein the member comprises generally non-porous material.

5. The wound dressing member of claim 1 , further comprising:

a connector coupled to the member and configured to fluidly couple a vacuum source to the at least one discrete hole.

6. The wound dressing member of claim 1 , further comprising:

a tube coupled to the at least one discrete hole and configured to be fluidly coupled to a vacuum source.

7. The wound dressing member of claim 1 , further comprising:

an adhesive coupled to the wound dressing member and configured to couple the wound dressing member to skin surrounding a wound.

8. The wound dressing member of claim 1 , further comprising:

a plurality of stand-offs coupled to the wound facing surface and extending away from the wound facing surface.

9. The wound dressing member of claim 8 , wherein the standoffs are coupled to the wound facing surface proximate the channels and configured to form spaces in fluid communication with the passageways when the member is disposed adjacent the wound surface.

10. A wound dressing member for use in a vacuum bandage connected to a vacuum source for applying reduced pressure to a wound having a wound surface, the member comprising:

a wound facing surface adapted to face toward the wound surface;

a plurality of stand-offs coupled to the wound facing surface and extending away from the wound facing surface;

at least one discrete hole formed in the wound facing surface through the member and configured to fluidly communicate with the vacuum source and the wound surface;

a plurality of channels formed in the wound facing surface and configured to form passageways between the wound facing surface and the wound surface in fluid communication with the at least one discrete hole; and

wherein the member is formed from a material being sufficiently transparent to enable a caregiver to see the wound through the member when disposed adjacent the wound surface.

11. The wound dressing member of claim 10 , wherein the material is generally non-porous.

12. The wound dressing member of claim 10 , wherein the member comprises generally porous material.

13. The wound dressing member of claim 10 , wherein the member comprises generally non-porous material.

14. The wound dressing member of claim 10 , further comprising:

a connector coupled to the member and configured to fluidly couple a vacuum source to the at least one discrete hole.

15. The wound dressing member of claim 10 , further comprising:

a tube coupled to the at least one discrete hole and configured to be fluidly coupled to a vacuum source.

16. The wound dressing member of claim 10 , further comprising:

an adhesive coupled to the wound dressing member and configured to couple the wound dressing member to skin surrounding a wound.

17. The wound dressing member of claim 10 , wherein the standoffs are coupled to the wound facing surface proximate the channels and configured to form spaces in fluid communication with the passageways when the member is disposed adjacent the wound surface.
