SEE-THROUGH COMPUTER DISPLAY SYSTEMS
Aspects of the present invention relate to methods and systems for the see-through computer display systems with an extended field of view.
1 . An optical system of a head-worn see-through display, comprising:
a. a main image content optic for the production of center-eye image content;
b. an extended image content optic for the production of off-center-eye image content;
c. a combiner positioned to present content to a user and through which the user views a surrounding environment; and
d. wherein each of the main image content optic and extended image content optic are positioned to project their respective image light to the combiner, which reflects the respective image light to a user's eye.
2 . The optical system of claim 1 , wherein the combiner directly reflects the respective image light to the user's eye.
3 . The optical system of claim 1 , wherein the combiner indirectly reflects the respective image light to the user's eye.
4 . The optical system of claim 3 , wherein the combiner reflects the respective image light towards a collimating partial mirror.
5 . The optical system of claim 1 , wherein the center-eye image content and the off-center-eye image content pass through at least one fold in the optical system before reflecting off of the combiner.
6 . The optical system of claim 1 , wherein the extended image content optic is mounted directly above the combiner such that the off-center-eye image content is directly projected to the combiner.
7 . The optical system of claim 1 , further comprising a processor adapted to coordinate a smooth disappearing transition of world-locked content as the content moves from a field of view of the main image content optic to a field of view of the extended image content optic and to an edge of the field of view of the extended image content optic.
8 . The optical system of claim 1 , wherein the extended image content optic is an OLED.
9 . The optical system of claim 1 , wherein the extended image content optic is an LCD display.
10 . The optical system of claim 1 , wherein the extended image content optic is an array of LEDs.
11 . The optical system of claim 1 , wherein the extended image content optic is linear.
12 . The optical system of claim 1 , wherein the extended image content optic is two dimensional.
13 . The optical system of claim 1 , wherein the extended image content optic is curved.
14 . The optical system of claim 1 , wherein the extended image content optic generates lighting effects corresponding to image content.
15 . The optical system of claim 1 , wherein the extended image content optic includes a lens system to modify the projection.
16 . The optical system of claim 15 , wherein the lens system includes an array of micro lenses.
