Abstract

In accordance with embodiments disclosed herein, there are provided apparatuses, systems and methods for implementing wireless system discovery and control using a state-space. For example, such means may include: establishing, a communications interface between an access point optimizer and a wireless access point; identifying one or more interfering wireless nodes exhibiting electromagnetic interference upon the wireless access point; collecting data from the wireless access point; determining a model of the wireless access point and the one or more interfering wireless nodes by: (i) modeling communicative relationships and properties among the wireless access points and the one or more interfering wireless nodes exhibiting electromagnetic interference upon the wireless access point based at least in part on the data collected, and (ii) modeling an active state of the wireless access points representing a current configuration of the wireless access points having therein one or more configurable parameters for the wireless access points based at least in part on the data collected; and quantifying a change in performance of the wireless access points or the one or more interfering wireless nodes based on a state change affecting the model. Other related embodiments are disclosed.

Claims (37)

1. A method of modeling a state space for an access point optimizer, the method comprising:

establishing a communication between an access point optimizer and a wireless access point to collect data from the wireless access point;

identifying wireless nodes that cause an interference with the wireless access point;

comprising states representing a communications node associated with the wireless access point and at least one state variable that represents a configuration of the wireless access point;

comprising graph edges that connect pairs of states and that identify state transitions that are defined by state transition matrices; and

changing the configuration to induce a state transition that causes the interference to be reduced.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the access point optimizer uses the one or more graphs to identify an interaction between two states.

3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the interaction comprises at least one of a conflict between or a fault at the wireless access point and the communications node.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more graphs further comprise an adjacency matrix that is representative of a relationship between a conflict and the configuration.

5. The method according to claim 4 , wherein the adjacency matrix is representative of an interaction between states.

6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein one edge represents a transition among a plurality of states.

7. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising updating one or more of the states based on an analysis of the state space.

8. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the analysis of the state space comprises clustering states based on at least one of location data or states exhibiting a stronger interaction than others.

9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein one or more states further comprise one or more variables that represents an environment of the communications node.

10. A method of using an access point optimizer, the method comprising:

using a state space model to predict configuration parameters for a wireless access point that effect a state transition such that an interference between a wireless node and the wireless access point is reduced, the state space having been modeled by:

establishing a communication between an access point optimizer and a wireless access point to collect data from the wireless access point;

identifying wireless nodes that cause an interference with the wireless access point; and

based on one or more graphs and the data, modeling states in the state space, the one or more graphs comprising states representing communications nodes that are associated with the wireless access point and at least one state variable that represents a configuration of the wireless access point, the one or more graphs identifying state transitions that are defined by state transition matrices; and

changing the configuration to induce a state transition that causes the interference to be reduced.

11. The method according to claim 10 , wherein the state space model has been simulated on a remote server.

12. The method according to claim 10 , wherein modeling the state space comprises discovering at least part of the state space by observing state changes in response to a change in one or more quantities affecting an operational characteristic of the wireless access point.

13. The method according to claim 12 , wherein using at least part of the state space that has been discovered to identify a first topology that produces a lower performance than a second topology.

14. The method according to claim 13 , wherein the first topology comprises one of a hidden node, a flow-in-the-middle problem, or an information asymmetry.

15. The method according to claim 10 , further comprising simulating the state space to reduce a number of measurements collected from the wireless access point.

16. The method according to claim 10 , further comprising the configuration parameters to control at least one fairness criterion for traffic in a wireless network.

17. An access point optimizer comprising:

an interface to a wireless access point;

an interference identification module to identify wireless nodes that cause an interference with the wireless access point;

a collection module to collect data from the wireless access point;

an analysis module to model, based on one or more graphs and the data, states in a state space, the one or more graphs that comprise states representing communications nodes that are associated with the wireless access point and at least one state variable that represents a configuration of the wireless access point, the one or more graphs identify state transitions that are defined by state transition matrices; and
