Abstract

A separator for secondary batteries is disclosed. The separator includes a separator main body and a coating layer disposed on the separator main body and including a first particle having a first melting point and a second particle having a second melting point that is higher than the first melting point.

Claims (24)

1. A separator for secondary batteries, comprising:

a separator main body; and

a coating layer disposed on the separator main body and comprising a first particle having a first melting point and a second particle having a second melting point, the second melting point being higher than the first melting point,

wherein the first particle comprises a first glass frit, and the second particle comprises a second glass frit, and

wherein the first glass frit comprises a larger amount of a network modifier than the second glass frit.

2. The separator according to claim 1 , wherein the first melting point of the first particle is 80° C. to 260° C., and the second melting point of the second particle is 400° C. or greater.

3. The separator according to claim 2 , wherein the first melting point of the first particle is 80° C. to 200° C., and the second melting point of the second particle is 500° C. to 600° C.

4. The separator according to claim 1 , wherein the first glass frit comprises 35 to 50 parts by weight of the network modifier based on 100 parts by weight of the first glass frit.

5. The separator according to claim 1 , wherein the second glass frit comprises 20 parts by weight or less of the network modifier based on 100 parts by weight of the second glass frit.

6. The separator according to claim 1 , wherein the network modifier comprises an oxide comprising at least one of sodium (Na), calcium (Ca), barium (Ba), vanadium (V), bismuth (Bi), and lead (Pb).

7. The separator according to claim 1 , wherein, when a total amount of the first and second particles is 100 parts by weight, amounts of the first and second particles are 10 to 50 parts by weight and 50 to 90 parts by weight, respectively.

8. The separator according to claim 1 , wherein the first particles or the second particles have a median particle size of 0.5 μm to 1.5 μm.

9. The separator according to claim 1 , wherein a pore formed in the separator has a size of 10 nm to 1000 nm.

10. The separator according to claim 1 , wherein the coating layer has a thickness of 1 μm to 100 μm.

11. The separator according to claim 10 , wherein the coating layer has a thickness of 5 μm to 10 μm.

12. The separator according to claim 1 , wherein the coating layer further comprises a polymer binder.

13. A method of manufacturing a separator for secondary batteries, the method comprising:

preparing a separator main body;

forming a coating material by mixing a solvent, a polymer binder, a first particle having a first melting point, and a second particle having a second melting point, the second melting point being higher than the first melting point; and

forming a coating layer by coating the coating material on the separator main body and heat-treating the coated separator,

wherein the first particle comprises a first glass frit, and the second particle comprises a second glass frit, and

wherein the first glass frit comprises a larger amount of a network modifier than the second glass frit.

14. The method according to claim 13 , wherein the forming of the coating material is performed through physical mixing.

15. The method according to claim 13 , wherein an amount of the solvent is 50 to 90 parts by weight, an amount of the polymer binder is 1 to 25 parts by weight, an amount of the first particle is 5 to 20 parts by weight, and an amount of the second particle is 5 to 20 parts by weight, based on 100 parts by weight of the coating material.
